Target hiring pay for this position will be $46.71 per hour as determined by the Local 399 CBA. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data

Job Summary:

NU Facilities is seeking a Maintenance Engineer B to perform semi-skilled preventive maintenance activities under direction and guidance, within the building maintenance engineer/electrician trade. This role will be in the Electric Shop. Along with other assigned duties, the primary role will be to join the PM & Compliance crew to perform code required preventive maintenance on all University electrical and associated equipment.

Including having the capability to perform basic repairs of lighting and building electrical infrastructure & related equipment, as instructed.

Have sufficient knowledge and capability to provide limited guidance and mentoring to Maintenance Engineer Helper or lamper staff.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Perform semi-skilled preventive maintenance activities within the building maintenance engineer/electrician trade.
• Under direction-Perform basic repairs of building electricals infrastructure related equipment including, but not limited to, Main switchboards, Distribution panels, MCC's, emergency systems, Starters, & disconnects.
• Understanding and capability to perform basic VFD maintenance.
• Be able to perform minor light fixture repair and replacement activities under the direction of Journey level electricians.
• Demonstrate Basic knowledge of Generator maintenance.
• Have sufficient knowledge and capability to provide limited guidance and mentoring to Maintenance Engineer Helper or lamper staff.
• Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy weights, climb and descend ladders, and work in hot, cold, cramped and confined quarters.
• Ability to work safely and at heights on ladders, lifts and scaffolding.
• Dexterity necessary for the use of tools and manipulation of materials.
• Must be available and capable of responding to irregularities during evenings and weekends ensuring 24 hour, 7-day per week coverage.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent combination of educational training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
• Completion of an accredited service technician apprenticeship program, or the equivalent education, training, and field experience;
• Experience in preventive maintenance activities-
• Previous experience working with basic light fixture repairs
• Successful completion of Generator Maintenance course
• Must be a member of Operating Engineers Local 399 or join after 90-day probationary period;
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license recognized by the State of Illinois, provide own reliable transportation and purchase a University parking permit (as required)

Preferred Qualifications:

• CDL
• Basic VFD Maintenance Training
