Float Phlebotomist II

Location: Baltimore City / Glen Burnie / Columbia, MD - Float Position

Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday-Friday 6:00 AM-7:00 PM , with 1 Saturday shift per month

Duration: 3 months


Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist II to join a float team supporting IOP and PSC locations throughout the Baltimore City, Glen Burnie, and Columbia areas. The candidate may also be required to cover locations in Clarksburg, Frederick, and Olney based on business needs.

The candidate's home base will be the office closest to where they live. This is a highly mobile float position, so reliable transportation is required. The ideal candidate must be an experienced phlebotomist who is comfortable working independently or as part of a team and has experience collecting specimens from a wide range of patient populations, from pediatric through geriatric patients.


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform blood draws and specimen collection at various IOP and PSC locations.



  • Perform phlebotomy on a diverse patient population, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.



  • Travel between assigned locations based on business and staffing needs.



  • Work independently at locations where the candidate may be the only phlebotomist onsite.



  • Follow proper patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, handling, and processing procedures.



  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail during all specimen collection activities.



  • Provide professional and compassionate customer service to patients.



  • Communicate effectively with patients, coworkers, and site personnel.



  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.



  • Maintain a high level of professionalism at all assigned locations.



  • Follow all laboratory, safety, infection-control, and company procedures.



  • Support coverage needs across multiple locations as required.




Required Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED.



  • Strong and proven phlebotomy experience.



  • Experience performing blood draws on pediatric through geriatric patients.



  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.



  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.



  • Strong communication skills.



  • High level of professionalism.



  • Reliable transportation, as this is a float position requiring approximately 90% travel.



  • Ability to work Monday-Friday with 1 Saturday shift per month.



  • Must be comfortable with varying start/end times depending on assigned location.



  • Color vision is required.



  • Must be able to complete a negative THC drug screen.




Preferred Skills


  • Strong pediatric and geriatric blood draw experience.



  • Previous experience working in IOP and PSC locations.



  • Experience working independently at busy patient service locations.



  • Previous experience in a float or multi-site phlebotomy role.



  • Ability to adapt quickly to different work locations and environments.



  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.




Additional Information


  • Home base will be the location closest to the candidate's residence.



  • Coverage may include Baltimore City, Glen Burnie, Columbia, Clarksburg, Frederick, and Olney.



  • Approximately 90% travel required.



  • 6:00 AM-7:00 PM Monday-Friday coverage window.



  • Actual shift will be 8 hours, with start times as early as 6:00 AM or end times as late as 7:00 PM depending on location.



  • 1 Saturday shift per month required.



  • Potential opportunity to convert to an FTE position if an opening becomes available.



  • No specific certification required.



  • No additional testing required.



  • Flu and COVID vaccination are not required.



  • Hepatitis B: RTB.



  • Negative THC screen required.
