Valiant is looking for a Role Play Carpenter/Maintenance Assistant to join our team! ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists Carpenter Work Group Leader in the construction of props, repair, modification, and assembly of wooden articles and structures used as props during military training at the Joint Readiness Training Center.
- Assists with cutting, shaping, and assembling lumber and other construction materials under the direction of a Carpenter or supervisor.
- Assists in setting up and operating woodworking equipment and tools used to cut, shape, and fabricate wooden parts and training props.
- Assists Carpenters with construction projects using blueprints, drawings, measurements, or verbal instructions.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools, including framing squares, levels, power saws, drills, nail guns, and other construction tools, as qualified and directed.
- Assists with framing and construction of walls, floors, ceiling joists, windows, and doorways in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Assists with the installation and repair of cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation.
- Measures, marks, cuts, positions, and assembles construction materials under the direction of a Carpenter.
- Loads, unloads, moves, and organizes lumber, tools, equipment, and construction materials.
- Maintains tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas and performs required preventive maintenance checks and services.
- Follows established safety procedures and properly uses required personal protective equipment.
- Routinely uses military forms and military maps and frequently uses mobile radio communications as required.
- Performs other duties as required commensurate with the position.
SECURITY REQUIREMENT: Applicant selected must possess or be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check Investigation (NACI) to be approved for an Installation Access Card and to utilize a government computer, as needed.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High School Diploma or equivalent.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic knowledge or experience in carpentry, construction, maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
- Must possess the ability to learn and safely use basic hand and power tools associated with carpentry and construction.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, work effectively as part of a team, and perform assigned duties under the direction of a Carpenter or supervisor.
- Must be able to multi-task and complete assigned work with appropriate supervision.
- Must be able to travel unaccompanied to continental US and foreign locations.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license.
- Must be in good physical condition capable of prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
- Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry heavy or bulky objects up to 25 lbs.
- Individuals must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening and will be subject to applicable drug-screening requirements.
- Must possess the physical ability and manual dexterity required to perform basic construction and carpentry-assistance duties.
- Must have a basic understanding of measurements, geometry, and mathematics necessary to perform assigned construction tasks.
- Must be able to understand and communicate instructions and basic concepts in a clear and effective manner.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous carpentry, construction, woodworking, building maintenance, or related experience.
- Vocational or technical training in carpentry or construction is desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical requirements may include, but are not limited to, lifting, ascending, and descending stairs, climbing, extended sitting or standing, to various degrees. This job will primarily be in an Office Setting. Outside working conditions include potential exposure to extreme high temperatures, dry and dusty conditions, and uneven walking surfaces.
