MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate level: Qualified candidates must be an MPH student at SUNY Albany's College of Integrated Health Sciences; AND must have completed at least 24 credits of coursework toward their degree including at least four of the core courses; AND must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better AND are unable to participate in an internship if on academic probation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel RESPONSIBILITIES: Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Intern II to work within the Bureau of Tobacco Control. The Hourly Intern II will assist with: Conducting thorough scans of tobacco control programs in other states to identify innovative community engagement strategies, public education campaigns, and promising practices that may inform New York State programming. Researching and summarizing emerging evidence, health communication strategies, and tobacco cessation interventions, with a focus on populations disproportionately impacted by commercial tobacco use. Developing and refining culturally responsive tobacco cessation messaging and educational materials designed to reach priority populations. Developing and organizing a messaging repository on priority and emerging tobacco and nicotine control related topics, including emerging products, cessation and treatment, and health equity, to support consistent communication by program staff and partners. Preparing summaries, briefing documents, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to program leadership and internal staff. Developing presentations and communication materials for statewide partners, coalitions, and community organizations. Program meetings and partner collaborations by participating to gain an understanding of how state health departments coordinate with local organizations to implement public health initiatives. Supporting community programming and other special projects that strengthen statewide tobacco prevention and cessation efforts. Potential deliverables may include environmental scan summaries, evidence briefs, communication materials, presentations, and recommendations to support program planning and implementation. Through these activities, the Hourly Intern II will gain practical experience applying social and behavioral science principles, health communication strategies, and evidence-based public health practice within a public health setting. DETAILS OF EMPLOYMENT: Approximate duration of the internship will be 14 weeks (09/08/26 - 12/15/26) and number of hours per week will be 15-20 hours. Approximate travel will be up to 10% of the time. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a combination of onsite and remote work.
