Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician II supports large-scale commercial and government infrastructure projects through the installation, termination, routing, and management of structured cabling systems. This role requires hands-on experience with low-voltage and data cabling, cable pathways, telecommunications spaces, and associated infrastructure. The technician is expected to follow project specifications, blueprints, safety requirements, and established technical standards while maintaining a professional and organized work environment. The position offers opportunities for continued technical development and career growth.

Job Responsibilities




  • Install CAT5e and CAT6 structured cabling infrastructure.



  • Dress and route cable into IT closets, modular furniture, and work area outlets.



  • Install cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks.



  • Perform cable management activities, including dressing and labeling cables.



  • Terminate cables at patch panels, jacks, keystones, RJ-45 connectors, and modular plugs.



  • Install wireless access points (WAPs).



  • Build and support MDF and IDF telecommunications spaces, including data racks, ladder racks, cable trays, and sleeves.



  • Read and follow blueprints, drawings, and project specifications for installation activities.



  • Maintain clear and professional written and verbal communication with colleagues and management.



  • Follow established safety guidelines and protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), jobsite cleanup, and OSHA requirements.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial structured cabling, low-voltage, or data cable installation experience.



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.



  • BICSI Level 1 certification or higher preferred.



  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Scissor lift certification preferred.



  • Security systems experience is a plus.



  • Ability and willingness to continue developing technical skills within low-voltage and structured cabling environments.



  • Ability to work safely from ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and remain active for the duration of the work shift.



  • Ability to use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, cable stripper, punch-down tool, modular plug crimper, and flashlight.



  • Ability to use required jobsite safety equipment, including appropriate work boots, gloves, and a tool pouch.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Work schedule is generally 40 hours per week.



  • Schedule and work hours may vary based on project and worksite requirements.



  • Most assignments are expected to be on day shift, typically beginning around 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m.



  • Second-shift work may occasionally be required based on project needs.



  • Candidates must be available to work the hours required for assigned projects.



  • Travel is not required.
