About the College/Unit/Department
Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.
In support of its mission to provide comfortable, affordable and secure housing options where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported, University Housing engages staff members in competency-based training and students in curriculum-based engagement focused on community building, interpersonal skills, social awareness and responsibility, and well-being.

  • Master's Degree in College Student Affairs Administration, student personnel or related area.
  • Experience in advising student organizations.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and assessing strategic goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Experience in managing a budget.
  • Experience working groups that operate within state, regional or national organizations.
  • Ongoing development centered around student leadership advising (i.e. NACURH Advisor Retention and Training program)

Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives & Student Leadership, the primary function of this position is to create safe and comfortable communities that have a focus on student learning. Special emphasis is given in autonomously leading programmatic and student leadership initiatives, advising student groups and the supervision of graduate residents. The successful candidate will be an active and engaging member of the department and prepared to oversee a student leadership program for 8500 residential students. The Coordinator for Residential Education and Leadership is an integral part of the team and is a full-time professional staff position.

Employees in this role may be required to report to work when the University is closed or operating under modified conditions.
  • The employee will be contacted by their supervisor (or designee) with instructions on when and where to report and what duties will be necessary. Communication will occur via the employee's primary contact information on file (phone, email, or other agreed-upon method).
  • The designation of Essential Personnel Pool will be reviewed annually during the performance evaluation period to ensure alignment with operational needs.
  • Participate in departmental "all hands-on deck" events (e.g., move-in, move-out, residence hall emergencies).

Student Leadership Advising & Support:

  • Serve as the primary advisor to the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and the Residence Hall Association (RHA), guiding executive boards on organizational structure, strategic goal-setting, event planning, and officer transitions throughout the academic year.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate graduate resident(s) supporting student leadership initiatives, including regular one-on-one supervision meetings, performance feedback, and professional development planning.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, registration, and logistics for, and accompany students to, state, regional (SAACURH), and national (NACURH) student leadership conferences and business meetings.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets for NRHH and RHA, including, conference and travel allocations, programming funds, and recognition expenses, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with university purchasing and travel policies.
  • Facilitate regular executive board and general body meetings for NRHH and RHA, providing ongoing coaching, mentorship, and conflict resolution support to elected and appointed student leaders.
  • Oversee officer recruitment, selection, application, interview, and transition processes for NRHH and RHA to build and sustain a consistent leadership pipeline from year to year.
  • Coordinate the development and submission of student and staff recognition nominations (e.g., Of the Month and Of the Year programs) at the regional and national level, supporting student delegations through competitive recognition processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between student leadership organizations and University Housing staff, campus partners, and university administration to ensure alignment between student-driven initiatives and departmental priorities.

  • Provide direct oversight of the creation, implementation, and ongoing assessment of University Housing's residential student leadership initiatives (RHA, NRHH, Community Council, etc.), ensuring alignment with departmental learning outcomes and curriculum.
  • Create, implement, and assess annual and on-going NRHH and RHA officer training programs, including officer retreats, transition training, and mid-year and end-of-year development sessions.
  • Develop and implement departmental training efforts for professional and paraprofessional staff (e.g., Resident Hall Directors, Resident Assistants, and graduate staff) focused on advising student organizations and facilitating student leadership development.
  • Design and facilitate leadership development workshops, courses, or cohort-based experiences for residential students, grounded in student development theory and intentional curriculum design.
  • Create and maintain training materials, facilitation guides, and resource manuals (e.g., advisor handbooks and officer guides) to support program consistency and continuity across leadership transitions.
