Job Description

TOOL CRIB ATTENDANT

Summary

Serving as a key support function to Production, the Tool Crib Attendant builds cutting tool assemblies from provided blueprints, inspects each one on a tool pre-setter to confirm it meets print dimensions and tolerances, and delivers ready-to-run tooling to the machine shop. By providing accurate, reliable tooling on time, this role helps keep the shop running smoothly and supports the high-quality standards our aerospace and defense customers expect. The Tool Crib Attendant role requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and sound judgment.

Job Responsibilities

Tool Assembly

• Build cutting tool assemblies (holders, collets, cutters, inserts, extensions) to the tool prints provided
• Set and verify assembly lengths and dimensions to print tolerance using a tool pre-setter
• Install and remove tools in heat-shrink holders using a shrink-fit machine
• Check dimensions with calipers, micrometers, and indicators
• Tear down returned assemblies; clean and inspect components for wear or damage, and return good components to stock
• Participate in tooling trials, process improvements, and engineering change implementation

Tool Crib Operations

• Issue tools and assemblies to operators and check in returns
• Stock and pull items using the tool vending / crib system
• Create and maintain tool kits and carts aligned with production cells, routings, and work orders
• Watch for items running low or near stock-out and report them
• Keep the tool crib clean and organized, and follow lean practices

Procedures & Training

• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve tool crib procedures and documentation
• Train and mentor tool crib staff and production personnel on proper tooling handling and control
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or GED

Experience

• No prior tool crib experience required; training provided
• Machine shop or manufacturing experience is a plus

Skills & Abilities

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read tool prints and build assemblies to print tolerance
• Comfortable using calipers, micrometers, and indicators, or willing to learn
• Close attention to detail and accuracy
• Basic shop math (decimals, fractions, measurements)
• Dependable, and able to work independently and with the production team

Additional Requirements

• Strong understanding of quality systems and documentation discipline
• Ability to work effectively in an AS9100 / ISO-certified environment
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a defense-related environment
