Job Summary

The Plant Business Manager will work with business leaders, plant managers, asset managers, internal customers, vendors and other subject matter experts to provide support and direction to optimize the company's business objectives. This position is responsible for the preparation, analysis, consolidation, and presentation of all types of statistical data, information, trends and patterns for financial data.

Essential Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Maintains Facility accounting records in a manner consistent with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and in support of NRG policies and procedures.
  • Manage and direct the monthly accounting close process, variance analysis, reforecasting, budgeting, payroll allocation, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and the year-end audit process for the plant.
  • Prepare and review of financial and operational business planning and forecasting activities, monthly variance analysis and financial reporting.
  • Prepare journal entries and coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accruals and closing requirements.
  • Accurately track, evaluate, and report on Capital and Major Maintenance projects monthly.
  • Within PowerSAM, create new projects, create revisions to current projects, run economics, submit for necessary approvals.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with Management and all site personnel to prepare site operating budget and update monthly forecasts.
  • Provides accounting advice and counsel to the Plant Manager. Responsible as the Point-of-contact for accounting.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of accounting records, preparation of financial reports, and development and usage of statistical and accounting information.
  • Appraise operating results in terms of costs, budgets, trends, and earnings.
  • Prepare and review of financial and operational business planning and forecasting activities in coordination with FP&A (FPR, SAP, PowerSAM, Plant Characteristics, and Planned Outage Schedules).
  • Support all operations activities through collection and analysis of information and the dissemination of intelligence on financial and operational plant performance; perform detailed analysis and prepare comprehensive reports to support all business functions.
  • Design and implement reports, tools, and presentations that lead to more effective and efficient decision making.

  • Utilize multiple data sources to collect, analyze, consolidate, and provide timely, accurate, presentation of financials (Capex, O&M, Deactivation, ARO). Utilize data sources appropriately for specific ad hoc assignments. Effectively convert data to meaningful information for management.
  • Create Work Orders, process invoices and run cost reports out of SAP.
  • Plant Business Process owner with responsibility for all plant business and administrative policies.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow/process improvements and work with functional areas to jointly develop ways to enhance productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness through the appropriate application.
  • Develop, manage, and track the Plant AIP metric process.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses as necessary and in a clear, timely manner.
  • Requires operation of a personal computer.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years related business experience
  • Accounting experience and knowledge of accounting standards and principles.
  • Previous experience in preparing and managing budgets.
  • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Power Plant and energy industry experience a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in specialized business technologies and applications (e.g. FPR, SAP, PowerSAM, PowerGADS, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills; including strong oral and writing skills, and the ability to effectively listen as well as a willingness to voice opinions and offer solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and strict adherence to NRG business practices, procedures, and principles.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Positive attitude, supportive of colleagues and acts as a change agent.

The base salary range for this position is $73,440 - $121,200. The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
