| Position Summary |
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee the daily operations, logistics, and staff of campus shuttles. The Transportation Supervisor manages a team of 10-15 Shuttle Drivers.
Responsibilities of the Transportation Supervisor include:
- Oversee the daily operations of fleet vehicles, drivers, and logistics to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services
- Operate the Ram Express Shuttle on a prescribed route with timed stops throughout the WSSU campus in a safe manner, picking up, and discharging passengers
- Accurately maintain standard mileage, passengers, and/or daily count records
- Manage shuttle schedules and supervise individuals in a professional manner
- Keep vehicles and equipment clean, check and maintain proper fluid levels in all vehicles
- Completes pre- and post-trip checklists to ensure vehicle and passenger safety
- Ensure that bus boarding and alighting areas are safe by making requests to Facilities for necessary lighting improvements, replacements, or repairs
- Identify routine and breakdown maintenance issues with buses and ensure that repairs are made
- Maintain thorough and current knowledge of all federal, state, local, and university regulations and policies applicable to Ram Shuttle services
- Manage required drug and alcohol testing programs
- Investigate accidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Perform regular vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle inspection schedules
- Train, or coordinate training on topics such as emergency responses and vehicle evacuation
- Maintain accurate records of training, certifications, and compliance inspections.
- Lead by example, fostering a positive safety culture, and enforcing company safety policies.
- Develop plans for vehicle fires, breakdowns, and accidents.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints with a "customer-first" approach.
- Track services in real-time, notifying customers immediately of delays or service issues.
- Monitor Passio Go! reporting and reviews driver performance data to ensure
- Convey clear, concise instructions to drivers and management
- Mediate disputes between staff and resolve customer complaints professionally.
- Problem-solve time-sensitive issues, and make decisions to handle unexpected issues like breakdowns, accidents, or routing delays.
- Monitor employee performance, set goals, provide constructive feedback, and mentor staff.
- Conduct morning meetings, safety briefings, and training sessions.
- Document incidents accurately for compliance and safety investigations.
- Provide clear, actionable instructions, particularly in high-stakes or emergency situations.
- Tailor communication styles to different audiences, including drivers, parents, or corporate management.
- Handle tense situations, such as student discipline or delivery delays, with patience and courtesy.
