Salary Range: $120,000 - $135,000 Depends on experience

Summary:

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented SQL Server Developer / Application Support Engineer to support and maintain mission-critical transaction processing systems. This role is primarily focused on Microsoft SQL Server development, data analysis, troubleshooting, and production support, with additional responsibilities involving .NET application development and maintenance. The ideal candidate will have strong database expertise, experience working with financial transaction systems, and the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve complex data discrepancies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Database Development & Support Develop, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, triggers, and queries.

Analyze and troubleshoot data discrepancies between internal systems and third-party data sources.

Perform root cause analysis for missing, duplicate, or mismatched transaction records.

Design and implement database solutions that support high-volume transaction processing environments.

Monitor database performance and recommend improvements to ensure reliability and scalability. Support data auditing, reconciliation, and exception management processes.

Application Development & Maintenance:

Develop and maintain applications and services using C#, .NET Framework/.NET Core, and Microsoft Visual Studio.

Support and troubleshoot Windows Services and backend application processes.

Implement software enhancements and bug fixes following established development standards and best practices.

Participate in code reviews and maintain technical documentation.

Transaction Processing & Operations Support:

Support end-to-end financial transaction processing workflows, including:

Card authorization and card swipe processing

Transaction validation and customer/site resolution

Settlement and invoicing processes

Investigate transaction exceptions and system anomalies.

Ensure compliance with PCI standards and security best practices.

Provide production support for 24/7 operational environments.

Collaborate with business stakeholders, operations teams, and external partners to resolve issues and improve processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including:

Database design and architecture

Query optimization and performance tuning.

Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio.

Strong programming skills in C# and .NET Framework/.NET Core.

Experience developing and supporting Windows Services.

Knowledge of object-oriented programming principles and software development best practices.

Functional Knowledge:

Experience supporting high-volume transaction processing systems. Understanding of financial transaction lifecycle and processing workflows. Knowledge of card authorization, transaction processing, settlement, and invoicing. Experience with exception handling and data reconciliation processes. Familiarity with PCI Compliance standards and security requirements. Knowledge of fleet management and fuel card operations is highly desirable.

Professional Skills:

Strong analytical, auditing, debugging, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Technical documentation and technical writing experience.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience). 5+ years of experience in SQL Server development, database support, or application support roles. Experience working within financial transaction processing, payment systems, fleet management, or related industries preferred.

Language Skills: Possess excellent communications and customer service skills. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Experience with Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis.

Experience working in enterprise production environments with 24/7 support requirements.

Experience integrating with third-party data providers and external transaction systems.
