- Location: U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT
- Schedule: Day Shift: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
CW is seeking a dependable Senior Janitor to perform daily custodial duties while providing hands-on guidance and support to team members, helping maintain a clean, safe, and positive work environment.
- Perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, restroom sanitation, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization across all assigned areas
- Lead by example by demonstrating proper cleaning techniques, safe work practices, and professionalism
- Provide day-to-day guidance and hands-on support to team members, reinforcing tasks and procedures
- Assist with on-the-job training for new employees, including proper equipment use and safety practices
- Offer encouragement and constructive feedback to support team members' growth and confidence
- Monitor work areas and proactively identify cleaning needs or areas requiring additional attention
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to management in a timely manner
- Ensure proper use, care, and storage of custodial equipment and supplies
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with team members and supervisors to support a collaborative work environment
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
- Site Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid RealID
- Must be able to obtain and maintain government base access.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of custodial or janitorial experience required
- Experience in commercial, institutional, or contract environments
- Experience supporting, training, or mentoring others in a work setting
- Hands-on experience with cleaning techniques and custodial equipment (e.g., buffers, scrubbers, vacuums) required
- Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices
- Ability to demonstrate and explain cleaning techniques in a clear and supportive manner
- Understanding of safe chemical handling, including the ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labels
Bonus If You Have These Skills:
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Safety Certification preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide clear guidance and feedback
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on maintaining quality standards

Physical & Environmental Demands:
- Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to safely lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, including trash bags, equipment, supply boxes, and cleaning materials. Occasional team lifting or use of mechanical aids may be required for heavier items.
- Standing and Walking: Requires prolonged standing and walking for extended periods (typically 6-8 hours per shift), often across large facilities and on a variety of surfaces (e.g., tile, concrete, carpet). May include frequent movement between buildings or work areas.
- Repetitive Motion: Frequent and repetitive use of hands, wrists, and arms for tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, scrubbing, and vacuuming. Regular operation of custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, and extractors, is required.
- Bending and Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching (above shoulder height and below waist level), and climbing stairs or ladders to complete cleaning tasks in various locations, including hard-to-reach areas.
- Physical Endurance: Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including pushing and pulling carts, equipment, and loaded bins. Tasks may require sustained strength, stamina, and coordination throughout the shift.
- Manual Dexterity and Coordination: Requires good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to safely handle tools, operate machinery, and complete detailed cleaning tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Noise Exposure: Work environment may involve moderate to high noise levels due to cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, buffers, auto scrubbers) and facility operations. Hearing protection may be required in designated areas.
- Temperature and Weather Exposure: May be exposed to varying indoor and outdoor temperatures, including hot, cold, or humid conditions, depending on assigned tasks. Work may occasionally be performed in entryways, loading docks, or outdoor spaces.
- Chemical Exposure: Regular exposure to commercial cleaning agents, disinfectants, and other chemicals. Must follow all safety procedures, including proper handling, labeling, and storage. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)-such as gloves, safety goggles, and masks-is required.
- Work Surfaces and Hazards: Duties are performed in environments that may be wet, slippery, uneven, or dusty. Employees must exercise caution, follow safety protocols, and wear appropriate footwear to minimize risk of slips, trips, and
