Job Summary

The Manager of Research Security is tasked with developing and implementing security protocols to protect sensitive research data and facilities from potential threats. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of security measures and compliance standards to ensure personnel safety and the integrity of research activities. This role will assist in developing and implementing comprehensive compliance programs to ensure adherence to federal regulations (National Security Presidential Memorandum 33, the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, Export Controls, etc.) and institutional policies, primarily related to Academic Research Security. This role serves as a liaison between academic units, research centers, and administrative offices, including, but not limited to, OIT, OSP, and C.O.I. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This role reports to the GT Director of Academic Research Security and Risk Compliance.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Develop and implement comprehensive security policies and procedures to protect sensitive research data and facilities from unauthorized access and threats. Disseminate checklists, policies, and procedures related to academic research security and integrity to relevant organizational stakeholders.

Job Duty 2 -
Conduct regular security assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures and identify areas for improvement. This includes risk assessments of international collaborations, proposed foreign visitors, and funded and unfunded proposals/agreements.

Job Duty 3 -
Monitor security incidents and breaches, conduct thorough investigations, and coordinate response efforts to mitigate risks.

Job Duty 4 -
Provide risk mitigation training and awareness programs for employees (faculty, students, & staff) on security best practices and the importance of safeguarding research information.

Job Duty 5 -
Prepare and present reports on security incidents, risks, and compliance to senior management and relevant stakeholders. Maintain records of compliance activities, risk assessments, and stakeholder feedback.

Job Duty 6 -
Stay current with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to research security to ensure compliance and best practices. Update institutional policies in response to regulatory changes.

Job Duty 7 -
Collaborate with Information Technology and research teams to integrate security protocols into research processes and technologies. Facilitate communication between GTRI, academic departments, and administrative units to ensure alignment and understanding of compliance requirements.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience
Three or more years of relevant experience, including one or more years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of federal research security regulations (e.g., NSPM-33, CMMC)

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent.

Preferred Experience
5+ years of experience in research administration, compliance, or a related area.
Strong organizational skills and diligence.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and departments.
Experience with project coordination and stakeholder engagement.
