. The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia is seeking a talented and motivated Web Developer to join its Communications and Marketing hub of excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, implementation, and performance of the School's digital ecosystem in support of its broader enterprise-wide marketing strategy. Darden's web presence includes a flagship enterprise website, a news and thought leadership platform, and a range of microsites designed to serve the School's diverse audiences. As a key member of the web and marketing technology team, the Web Developer will work alongside experienced colleagues such as UX designers, content strategists, marketers, writers, editors, IT partners, and internal stakeholders to help build, and enhance digital experiences across the School's web platforms. The Web Developer will contribute to digital initiatives that support Darden's broader marketing and communications goals and will gain exposure to related platforms and tools, including email communications systems, CRM platforms, digital asset management systems, AI-Search, and other marketing technologies. The ideal candidate is curious, works well in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with a strong desire to grow their technical abilities. They should bring an entrepreneurial mindset, an openness to feedback, and a solutions-oriented approach, to a collaborative team environment. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Using Agile workflows, support web development efforts across Darden's current and future web properties, including front-end and back-end tasks, in collaboration with teammates and stakeholders
- Maintain and enhance web properties by developing components, features, and pages in Drupal and Contentful
- Contribute to planning activities such as page structure, content modeling, and site organization in collaboration with UX and content teammates.
- Troubleshoot website issues and respond to support tickets with professionalism, responsiveness, and a strong customer-service mindset.
- Develop and enhance features using modern JavaScript frameworks, integrate data from APIs, and use AI-assisted tools to improve efficiency and workflow execution.
- Support the development and enhancement of Darden's ContentHub in Contentful, including content ingestion workflows and custom modules.
- Help ensure web platforms meet established standards for quality, usability, accessibility, and technical best practices, including site architecture, navigation, interaction design, and functionality.
- Support optimization of web properties for search visibility, mobile performance, page speed, personalization, and evolving search behaviors, including AI-driven discovery.
- Support ongoing maintenance and feature enhancements while helping ensure compliance with accessibility, privacy, and related University directives, including ADA and GDPR requirements as applicable.
- Write scripts, automations, and lightweight middleware to support routine processes and marketing technology systems.
- Support the implementation of measurement and tracking tools such as form embeds, cookies, tags, pixels, and web analytics.
- Contribute to user experience research and performance measurement through testing, analytics, and reporting.
- Help document and communicate project progress and performance insights to teammates and stakeholders.
- Assist with HTML email support, Marketing Cloud integrations, and the development of custom landing pages for campaigns and advertising initiatives
- Help develop and maintain technical documentation to support ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and knowledge sharing across web properties.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of relevant professional experience required. May consider combination of relevant experience, education, certification(s) in lieu of degree.
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Ability to manage assigned web development tasks through implementation, testing, and deployment with appropriate guidance and collaboration.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal, Contentful, or similar platforms - Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Nuxt.js or Next
- Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with testing, debugging, and quality assurance practices
- Familiarity with version control systems and modern development workflows
Preferred qualifications:
- Exposure to CI/CD workflows
- Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a professional workflow
- Familiarity with UX/UI principles as well as responsive and adaptive design
- Familiarity with REST APIs, PHP, and serverless architecture concepts.
- Familiarity with test-driven development
- Ability to collaborate with marketers, program owners, and business stakeholders to support technical solutions aligned with business goals
- Experience with HTML/CSS and email development, including responsive templates and QA across email clients.
