Employment Duration: 3 months

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and guided by the procedures of Ambulatory Services, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides nursing care to patients in Pediatric Specialties Practices. Responsibilities include intake of pediatric patients for clinic visits, obtaining vital signs, reviewing medications, administering vaccines and medications, performing laboratory procedures, and serving as a liaison between patients and the care team outside of clinic visits. The LVN maintains a professional and courteous demeanor and complies with Medical Center standards.


  • Identify patient needs and responses to treatment through observation of symptoms, emotional state, and cultural or socioeconomic background
  • Recognize and report physical and emotional conditions or concerns to the RN or physician
  • Alert providers to unusual observations or acute patient symptoms
  • Collaborate with the health care team to develop care plans and patient goals
  • Provide individualized nursing care based on patient growth, development, and treatment needs
  • Deliver age-appropriate care across neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent populations
  • Perform patient intake, maintain exam room cleanliness, and ensure patient privacy
  • Assist patients with limited mobility
  • Prepare and educate patients on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Assist with procedures and treatments as needed
  • Maintain and safely use clinical equipment
  • Document patient care, responses, and treatments accurately and legibly
  • Administer medications and maintain current pharmacology knowledge
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including CPR and safety protocols
  • Comply with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain communication with patients, families, and care teams through various channels
  • Utilize clinical systems, including APeX, to support patient care
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
  • Demonstrate professional communication and cultural sensitivity
  • Coordinate retrieval and documentation of external medical records
  • Identify and support patient education needs
  • Provide information to support informed patient decision-making and appropriate referrals
  • Reinforce health teaching using understandable language and verify comprehension
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and data collection
  • Report and follow up on safety and environmental concerns
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and continuing education activities
  • Comply with licensing, certification, and institutional policy requirements
  • Support orientation and training of team members
  • Adhere to scheduling and workplace expectations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of California
  • Current CPR Certification (BLS)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of recent LVN experience
  • Recent experience working in pediatrics
  • Proficiency in EPIC

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
