Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Quantitative Insights at UL Standards & Engagement. This is a hybrid opportunity based in our Washington, DC office.

The Director of Quantitative Insights will oversee the full lifecycle of quantitative research and insights initiatives to advance the UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) mission to create a safer, more secure, and more sustainable world. The Director of Quantitative Insights will lead the design, execution and evolution of quantitative assessment initiatives that generate original data, and translate findings into meaningful, actionable insights. As a subject matter expert, the Director of Quantitative Insights will contribute to the broader enterprise insights strategy and partner across the organization to identify research needs, shape quantitative and periodically mixed methods research plans, and deliver high-quality analysis that informs decision making. As a people leader, the Director of Quantitative Insights will lead and mentor a high-performing team that will advance quantitative research and analysis objectives.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the Director of Quantitative Insights, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Define and advance quantitative research and insights strategy that elevates ULSE's visibility, credibility, and mission impact. Implement approach to capitalize on identified opportunities and drive the organization's influence within the safety standards landscape.

  • Lead development and execution of quantitative research initiatives that assess awareness, understanding, opportunities, perceptions and organizational impact through original data generation and analysis.

  • Manage full lifecycle of projects, including research design, instrument development, sampling approach, fielding, analysis, interpretation and reporting.

  • Determine and apply appropriate quantitative methodologies and analytical frameworks to address research questions, support decision making, and strengthen the quality and relevance of findings.

  • Analyze and interpret research data to identify meaningful patterns, trends, and opportunities, translate findings into actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Verify the integrity, accuracy, and methodical soundness of data and analysis, ensuring research outputs are credible, defensible and aligned with set standards.

  • Produce and deliver clear, compelling reports, presentations, and other research outputs tailored to varied stakeholder audiences.

  • Represent ULSE at industry-related functions such as conferences, seminars and trade shows. Present technical content for diverse audiences including committees, working groups, and other stakeholder forums.

  • Seve as strategic advisor to senior leadership and contribute to cross-functional planning, thought leadership development, and organizational storytelling. Balance long term strategic initiatives with responsive execution tied to emerging issues and opportunities.

  • Partner with subject matter experts to ensure our insights efforts are unified, strategic, and impactful, while elevating relevance for industry leaders, regulators and the public.

  • Lead and develop team of insights professionals, provide strategic direction and serve as mentor to advance capabilities in area of specialization. Cultivate collaborative environment to ensure team success and effective execution of high-quality content.

  • Foster a culture of creativity, purpose, and accountability within the team.

  • Maintain continued awareness of industry trends, offering insight to inform strategic decisions and direction of the standards engagement function.

  • Contribute to department initiatives as needed.

  • Experience defining direction, executing strategy and achieving tangible results through research and insights function. Ability to align project objectives and outputs to broader team and organizational priorities.

  • Strong people leadership, with ability to build and sustain high performing teams. Experience setting expectations while establishing and operationalizing clear goals and enforcing accountability for both processes and results.

  • Strong project management skills, effectively leading multiple complex initiatives from planning through execution. Able to manage timelines, resources, workflows and coordinate with cross-functional and external contributors, ensuring timely delivery aligned with organizational goals.

  • Excellent communicator and presenter, with ability to distill complex data into clear, compelling narratives and recommendations for a range of audiences.

  • Strong consultative and partnership orientation, with ability to establish effective relationships and influence others, including senior leaders and external stakeholders.

  • Sound judgement and analytical rigor, with strong commitment to research quality. Strategic thinker with ability to innovate and adapt in a dynamic industry landscape.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:

  • Bachelor's degree in market research, statistics, social sciences, business, data analytics, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience.

  • Minimum 4 years of people management experience.

  • Experience in primary market research, quantitative insights, consumer or stakeholder research, analytics, or related discipline.

  • Subject matter expertise in at least one area related to products, emerging technology, engineering, safety, or sustainability preferred.
