Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY
The Translational Research Scientist - Synthetic Chemistry will be responsible for guiding all aspects of chemistry, from compound design and optimization to synthesis, as well as managing relationships with external chemistry vendors. This individual will ensure that high-quality, efficient chemistry is executed in alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgetary constraints. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medicinal chemistry or synthetic organic chemistry, with extensive experience managing external partnerships in drug discovery and development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lead and oversee all chemistry-related efforts, with a focus on managing outsourced chemistry work conducted by external vendors, including CROs. Define the chemistry strategy for discovery and development projects, ensuring alignment with therapeutic goals and timelines. Collaborate with external vendors to design and optimize synthetic routes, manage compound libraries, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality compounds. Maintain relationships with CROs and other external partners, including negotiating contracts, defining project scopes, timelines, and budgets, and ensuring adherence to contractual obligations. Collaborate closely with internal biology, pharmacology, and preclinical development teams to ensure that chemistry efforts are aligned with broader program goals. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards in chemistry-related activities, both internally and at external vendors. Represent the chemistry function in internal and external meetings.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction for medicinal chemistry, process chemistry, and compound synthesis, ensuring that chemistry deliverables meet scientific and quality standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and editing of grant proposals, scientific manuscripts, and presentations, contributing to academic publications and supporting funding efforts by effectively communicating research findings and project goals
  • Stay current with advancements in chemistry methodologies and technologies, integrating innovative approaches where appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Doctorate in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field. Required
EXPERIENCE
  • 10 years in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including extensive experience in drug discovery and development. Required
