| Position Summary |
The Systems and Infrastructure Engineer supports Linux-based systems and related infrastructure that underpin
GALILEO,
GIL, and related statewide library services. This position supports production and non-production environments across on-premises, vendor-hosted, and cloud-connected systems.
Working as part of a collaborative team, the Systems and Infrastructure Engineer contributes to the administration, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and automation of a wide range of systems and services, including Linux servers, virtualization platforms, authentication and access services, proxy services, application environments, and related infrastructure. This role works closely with the Systems Architect, developers, and other team members to support existing services, implement improvements, and build operational knowledge over time.
This position also supports systems and services that interface with the Library Services Platform and related service platforms, with an emphasis on service continuity, access, integrations, and operational consistency.
This work supports the
GALILEO initiative and
GALILEO Interconnected Libraries.
GIL is the shared Library Services Platform used across all 26
USG institutions.
GALILEO includes more than 3,000 institutions, including universities and colleges within the University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia, as well as Georgia K-12 schools, public libraries, and select private higher education and K-12 institutions.
GALILEO programs include the statewide research portal, the Digital Library of Georgia, Affordable Learning Georgia,
GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, and other related projects. |

- Working knowledge of Linux systems administration and infrastructure support concepts.
- Familiarity with networking, virtualization, cloud-connected environments, and containerized application deployment concepts.
- Ability to read, write, and maintain administrative scripts and work with Git-based workflows for infrastructure and automation (Infrastructure as Code).
- Effective communication, documentation, and collaboration skills in a team with varying levels of technical expertise.
- Comfort learning and using AI-assisted tools appropriately to support operational and technical work.
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible and related automation workflows.
- Experience supporting web applications, certificates, and access management in a higher education, public sector, or similarly complex environment.

- Provides day-to-day support of server systems and related infrastructure, including monitoring systems and services, reviewing logs and alerts, and responding to outages or urgent operational issues as needed.
- Administers user accounts, permissions, storage access, and other system resources while helping maintain documentation, inventories, and operational procedures.
- Maintains the security, stability, and reliability of Linux-based infrastructure by applying patches, updates, and configuration changes and by supporting networking, storage, virtualization, container platforms, and cloud-connected systems.

- Implement, automate, and support infrastructure, application environments, and related service platforms that support GALILEO, GIL, DLG, and related statewide library services.
- Utilize and maintain Ansible playbooks, scripts, branch-based deployment using GitLab CI or similar tools, and other operational tooling used to manage configuration, access, deployments, inventories, containerized services, and repeatable support tasks.
- Deploy, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot locally hosted, cloud-hosted, and partner-hosted platforms and integrations, including authentication, proxy, network access workflows, and container-based application environments.
- Coordinate with developers, vendors, campus partners, product owners, leadership, and member institutions to resolve issues, implement changes, and support service continuity and modernization efforts.
