Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a skilled Project Communications Specialist for the University Finance Administration ( UFA) Project Management Office ( PMO) team to provide support for the planning and execution of project communications. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Change Management. This position uses established procedures to assist with the development, coordination, and execution of strategic internal communications in partnership with key stakeholders. The Project Communications Specialist effectively manages all aspects of internal communication platforms, especially website, e-mail, and collaboration tools (MS Teams) in support of initiatives/projects.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Works on creative and sophisticated communications for university projects, incorporating key initiative/project messages to build awareness and understanding, while promoting the changes and benefits of initiatives.
  • Plans, prepares and disseminates information designed to keep staff, faculty and senior executives informed of pertinent aspects of initiatives/projects.
  • Works collaboratively with project managers and with key stakeholders to assess needs and effectiveness, and coordinate communications for initiatives/projects.
  • Assesses, develops and applies appropriate metrics to measure impact of communications.
  • Assesses new and emerging communication channels and opportunities for compatibility with needs for initiatives/projects.
  • Stays up-to-date on recent trends and best practices, and provides recommendations to inform communications planning.
  • Manages communications aspects of initiatives/projects effectively, from concept through launch/delivery, including establishing timelines and prioritizing competing initiatives.

Salary Details $40/hour

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge, skill and understanding of communications and public relations.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in communications, public relations, or related field.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated capability to write, edit, and proofread high-quality copy applying standard published style guides such as The Chicago Manual of Style or The Associated Press Stylebook and the Rutgers Editorial Style Guide; maintain high publication standards, ensuring consistency and quality of messaging for all content.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office, and working knowledge of platforms such as Qualtrics, Prezi, YouTube, Constant Contact, Eventbrite, SharePoint, and Mentimeter.
  • Ability to communicate and complete work proactively with some supervision.
  • Ability to exhibit strong attention to detail, is organized, responsive, and dependable.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining quality of work and meeting deadlines required.
  • Ability to embody University Finance and Administration guiding principles of support and collaboration, understanding and trust, how we work, strategic alignment, and accountability.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, positive disposition, internally motivation, and manage confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at an institution of higher education, project management office, and/or financial organization.
