Job Summary The Lead Cable Technician is responsible for overseeing, installing, testing, and maintaining structured cabling systems within data center environments, covering both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership to cabling teams, ensures compliance with data center standards, and acts as the primary on-site point of contact for cabling-related activities. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Lead and supervise a team of cable technicians and subcontractors. Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to specification. Serve as escalation point for technical issues and troubleshooting. ISP (Inside Plant) Cable Infrastructure Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling (Cat6/6A, SM/MM fiber). Build and maintain data center cabling systems including: MDA, HDA, EDA layouts Overhead ladder rack and underfloor cable pathways Cabinets, racks, patch panels, and fiber enclosures Perform fiber splicing (fusion preferred), testing, and certification (OTDR, power meter). Maintain cleanliness, bend-radius compliance, and airflow best practices. OSP (Outside Plant) Infrastructure Oversee installation and maintenance of OSP fiber systems including: Conduit, innerduct, handholes, and vaults Aerial and underground fiber (as applicable) Coordinate splicing, testing, and documentation for OSP routes. Interface with customers, carriers, and construction partners during OSP activities. Standards, Quality, and Safety Ensure all work complies with: TIA-942, BICSI, and ANSI/TIA standards Data center and client-specific installation standards Enforce safety policies, including PPE, ladder use, and confined-space awareness. Perform quality inspections and correct deficiencies. Documentation & Coordination Maintain accurate as-built documentation, labeling schemes, and test results. Participate in walk-throughs, closeouts, and turnover meetings. Collaborate with project managers, network engineers, data center operations, and customers. Support Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) in live production environments. Required Qualifications 5+ years of structured cabling experience in data centers or critical facilities. 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role. Strong knowledge of OSP and ISP cabling systems. Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, testing, and certification. Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and fiber route maps. Familiarity with colocation and hyperscale data center environments. Strong communication and leadership skills. Preferred Certifications BICSI Technician (TECH) or BICSI Installer/Technician BICSI Outside Plant (OSP) certified ETA Fiber Optic Technician (FOT) OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Manufacturer certifications (Corning, CommScope, Panduit, Leviton - a plus) Physical & Work Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and elevated cable trays. Ability to work in large-scale data centers, including raised floor and overhead environments. Willingness to work nights, weekends, or after-hours maintenance windows as required. Working knowledge of carrier demarcation, meet-me rooms (MMR), and cross-connect management. Experience supporting live production environments with strict change-control procedures. Familiarity with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and ticketing systems. Ability to troubleshoot fiber attenuation, polarity issues, and connector contamination. Project & Team Leadership Proven ability to lead crews across multiple concurrent projects or shifts. Experience mentoring junior technicians and driving skills development. Strong task prioritization and time-management skills in fast-paced environments. Ability to coordinate effectively with PMs, network engineers, carriers, and facilities teams. Documentation & Compliance Strong attention to detail for labeling, test reporting, and as-built documentation. Experience delivering work packages compliant with customer SLAs and audit requirements. Understanding of Method of Procedure (MOP) and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) execution. Knowledge of security protocols in controlled-access data centers. Communication & Customer Interaction Professional customer-facing demeanor; able to represent the company on-site. Clear written and verbal communication for reporting status, risks, and issues. Ability to explain technical details to non-technical stakeholders. Safety & Reliability Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence. Experience working under OSHA, NEC, and local code requirements. Ability to remain calm and effective during incidents or high-impact outages. *Experience Level* Expert Level *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract position based out of Mesa, AZ. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
