Corrections Food Service Instructor - SCI Somerset

As a Corrections Food Service Instructor with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you will play an important part in shaping positive routines within the facility. This position supports food service operations by training and guiding inmate workers in safe and effective kitchen practices. You will play a key role in maintaining reliable meal preparation and supporting safety and sanitation across the work area. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Food Instruction: Teach inmates how to prepare, cook, bake, and serve food according to established procedures
• Safety Oversight: Ensure proper sanitation, equipment use, and safe handling practices in all work areas
• Work Assignment Planning: Organize inmate job tasks and review performance to maintain consistent workflow
• Inventory Management: Monitor food supplies, adjust recipes as needed, and follow approved storage procedures
• Operational Monitoring: Inspect kitchen areas and equipment to verify compliance with standards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are to be determined. Available shifts: 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, days off to be determined.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
