Job Summary
The Utility Person/Floater supports daily production operations by ensuring tooling, dies, inks, and printing supplies are properly prepared, stocked, and maintained for all machine centers. This role provides operational flexibility by performing machine setup, operation, and teardown for Operations 1 and 2 as needed, including coverage during breaks, vacations, or staffing shortages. The Utility Person/Floater proactively identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and workflow throughout the plant. Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and follow instructions on factory masters and production documentation.
- Ensure all required tooling is staged at machine centers according to the production schedule, maintaining readiness for a minimum of three production runs.
- Deliver correct printing dies to press department machines and retrieve completed dies for return to the die room.
- Clean and maintain printing dies, including washing, tape removal, banding, and proper storage.
- Inspect incoming and returned dies for damage or wear; perform minor repairs such as gluing or sealing loose components.
- Organize and replace printing dies in the correct sequence on die racks.
- Assist Die Mounter with pulling load tags; sort, file, and maintain load tag records.
- Produce BMC and box ID strips as required.
- Perform Op.1 and Op.2 machine setup, operation, and teardown functions when needed.
- Provide support with two-man feed operations when required.
- Cross-train and support other production roles as assigned.
- Accurately complete required documentation, including production data, machine status, safety reports, and quality records.
- Submit maintenance work orders and proactively assist with equipment upkeep.
- Adhere to the production schedule and recommend adjustments to improve efficiency, quality, and service levels.
- Report scheduling challenges or unusual conditions to supervision promptly.
- Comply with all company policies, safety standards, and housekeeping requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED preferred but not required
- Must be physically able to lift up to 50lbs.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in the corrugated manufacturing industry.
- At least six months of experience in the Press and Finishing Department.
- Previous forklift operating experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Language Skills
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to perform basic calculations including measurements, percentages, volume, and rates.
Reasoning Ability
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply common-sense judgment to varied production situations.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of equipment capabilities and operational best practices.
- Understanding of product layouts, production specifications, and quality standards.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must maintain a valid Lift Truck Operator License if required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform this job. The employee regularly stands, walks, uses hands and arms, communicates verbally, and may frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The role requires regular lifting and moving of up to 50 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting as necessary. Hourly Pay Range: $22.00-$29.00 dependent on experience* *pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living
Bonus/Incentive Pay: Incentive pay may be available for certain job roles and may include piece rate incentives, weekly production bonuses, and trip rate bonuses. A discretionary annual bonus based on Company and business unit performance may also be provided.
