Lovelace Medical Center and Lovelace Heart Hospital:

Lovelace Medical Center and Heart Hospital are part of Lovelace Health System, a regional leader in advanced acute and specialty care serving the Albuquerque metro area and greater New Mexico community. This Director of Emergency Services role oversees operations across two emergency departments located across the street from one another in Albuquerque - the 21-bed emergency department at Lovelace Medical Center and the 7-bed emergency department at Heart Hospital. Together, the departments operate under one license and share a combined team of approximately 55-60 FTEs who float between both locations to support seamless patient care and throughput. The director will be based at 601 Dr. Martin Luther King Ave. and will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary leaders across behavioral health, med-surg and other service lines to ensure high-quality, efficient emergency care delivery. Lovelace Medical Center is a 263-bed acute care hospital known for advanced technology, including the da Vinci 5 surgical system, and for its commitment to staff development, collaborative leadership and patient-centered care.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The nurse director is a professional registered nurse with twenty-four hour responsibility for assigned departments within established standards to achieve the mission and vision of the organization. The nursing director is responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the unit/departments and executes supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. The nurse director provides leadership and mentorship in the development of leaders and staff. The nurse director is responsible for monitoring and evaluating quality, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction outcomes to implement strategies for improvement. The nurse director is a change agent, and will establish strong collaborative relationships with physicians. Responsible for overall administrative, financial and clinical activities of assigned departments.


Responsibilities

  • Executes strategic planning, leads mentoring/coaching and identifying department succession strategy.
  • Oversight of two ED's at LMC and Heart Hospital
  • Oversight of physician relationships and engagement.
  • Collaborates with marketing and nursing leadership in marketing, community outreach, and visibility.
  • Development and oversight of quality initiatives, staffing and productivity guidelines, and customer service goals.
  • Analyzes and monitors compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards.
  • Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates policies, standards and programs that supports unit/departments.
  • Develops and submits budget strategies and capital budgets for the unit/departments.
  • Uses forecasted budget to guide expenditure decisions.
  • Initiates activities to enhance revenues and support cost reduction and containment activities.
  • Demonstrates empathy, intentionally works to put others at ease.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required. Effective 9/1/19 if applicant does not have a BSN - must be enrolled in accredited BSN program with scheduled date of completion.

  • Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing.

  • Minimum of five (or 3-5) years' clinical nursing experience of which 3 (or 2) years must have been in management capacity.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in nursing and/or related field

  • Strongly prefer experience in emergency department
  • Certification in clinical specialty or nursing administration
