Position Summary:

Under the specific direction of Shared Resources and Support, sets up and operates research instruments and applies scientific techniques and maintenance related to the Shared Resources equipment. Provides end-user training, supply ordering, invoice payment processing, and chemical/equipment inventory management. Balances these tasks, instrument maintenance record keeping and instrument fee-for-service report preparation software.



Key Accountabilities:



  • Supports lab personnel with the use of the Shared Resources fee-for-service instrumentations.
  • Assists with laboratory equipment end-user training. Facilitates access for new users with I.T. collaboration, including monthly login into all Shared Resources computers to ascertain connectivity to the network.
  • Performs laboratory maintenance including maintaining and troubleshooting scientific equipment and ordering supplies; updates equipment manuals and arranges training schedules, including the upkeep of Milli-Q distributions tanks.
  • Responsible for Equipment inventory (CMS) and Chemical inventory computers (Chem-inventory), labels, software updates, record keeping, and database, including entering information for the scientific equipment inventory.
  • Oversees SofTrack software (metering system-fee-for-service) and corrects any technical issues which affect instruments. Oversees software for analysis computers, providing updates, and a weekly check of unauthorized storage.
  • Rounds daily to check supply of LN2, CO2, Oxygen, special gases (metabolic cages), dry ice, and other materials; orders supplies and processes associated invoices.
  • Contacts vendors with requests associated with field specialist engineers and troubleshooting for Shared Resources equipment, including the equipment maintenance schedule.
  • Performs daily autoclave and dishwasher duties, including maintenance.
  • Sets up equipment demonstrations, schedules seminars, and communicates with speakers, day-of-set up and postevent.
  • Assists with the supervision of the cell imaging facility which houses high technology microscopes. Daily responsibilities include maintenance, confirming microscopes are turned off after use and end users sign-in and sign-off off when using the facility. Assists with end-user training at the cell imaging facility.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Required: Bachelor's degree with 1-year experience OR Associate's degree with 5 years' experience OR High school diploma, GED or equivalent with 9 years' experience
  • Familiarity with scientific research environment
  • Ability to enter computer data; basic statistical analysis
  • Rigid accuracy identifying and reporting data
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to use automated instruments and mechanical apparatuses



Salary Range: Minimum 17.97/hour - Maximum 28.74/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
