Position Summary

Enterprise Strategy & Architecture (ES&A) is a centralized architecture group within the Information Technology department. The group supports PG&E's safety, reliability and affordability goals under the architecture mandate of Reuse, Rationalize, Optimize, and Standardize.

Reporting to the Sr. Mgr. Technology Architecture, this role serves as an Enterprise Architect focused on IT Foundation capabilities, responsible for defining and advancing enterprise architecture across the company's core platforms and shared services. The role spans Cloud, DevSecOps, Integration, AI enablement, Service and Asset Management, Data Center, and End User Computing.

The successful candidate is a systems level thinker and master planner who translates enterprise strategy into living target architectures, prioritized roadmaps, and reusable patterns, working early and continuously with delivery and operations teams to ensure solutions are aligned, secure, and executable. Architects in this role are expected to focus on enabling outcomes and delivery.

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint$155,000 - $210,000. Thefinal decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above.This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Bay Area Min: $ 155,000

Bay Area Max: $ 265,000

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and our Oakland, CA office approximately 1 - 2 days per week, or more, based on business needs.

Job Responsibilities

Architecture Vision & Direction

  • Define and evolve target architecture for IT Foundation platforms and shared services, providing a clear north star that guides investment, design, and modernization decisions.
  • Translate enterprise and IT strategy into capability-based roadmaps, identifying maturity gaps, dependencies, and sequencing required to move from current to target state.
  • Own architecture outcomes across a portfolio of foundational platforms, ensuring alignment from strategy through implementation and operations.

IT Foundation Scope

  • Cloud & Data Center: Hybrid and cloud hosting strategies, resilience, availability, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Platform Engineering (DevSecOps): CI/CD platforms, developer tooling, environment standardization, automation, and secure delivery practices.
  • Integration: Enterprise integration patterns, APIs, eventing, data movement, and interoperability.
  • Service & Asset Management: Enterprise service management platforms, CMDB, asset lifecycle integration, and operational telemetry.
  • Digital Workplace: End user platforms, collaboration tools, devices, and identity services.

Delivery Enablement & Governance

  • Engage early in planning and solution shaping, helping teams align on architecture direction, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements before major commitments are made.
  • Enable delivery teams through reusable architecture patterns, standards, reference architectures, and decision frameworks.
  • Support architecture reviews and working sessions to surface risks, manage dependencies, and validate solution direction.
  • Guide teams when deviations are required, managing tradeoffs and technical debt while maintaining enterprise coherence.
  • Ensure architecture standards are current, practical, and consistently applied, focusing on reuse and simplification.

Portfolio, Planning & Optimization

  • Support IT strategic planning, modernization, and platform consolidation efforts.
  • Coordinate roadmaps across infrastructure, security, application, data, and operations teams to manage interdependencies and conflicts.
  • Lead or support vendor evaluations, platform selections, and RFP activities.
  • Contribute to technology rationalization by reducing redundancy and improving platform consistency.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner closely with IT leaders to align architecture with operational realities and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate across architecture disciplines to ensure enterprise-wide consistency and integration.
  • Coach and mentor engineers and architects, promoting strong architectural discipline and shared accountability.
  • Use metrics and feedback loops to monitor progress, measure adherence to target architecture, and continuously improve architecture practices.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise, platform, infrastructure, or solution architecture


Desired:

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience working across multiple IT Foundation domains with a strong understanding of enterprise scale platforms
  • Experience architecting or modernizing large scale enterprise platforms
  • Experience operating in regulated, high reliability, or security sensitive environments
  • Solution architecture and project implementation experience
  • Relevant architecture certification such as TOGAF
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills
