Job Summary

This position is under the direction of the Procurement Supervisor 1. This position is a working supervisory position providing direct supervision to the move crew semi-skilled craft staff members. The move crew semi-skilled craft unit provide support for the move, relocation or delivery of equipment, move of archive boxes, furniture, inter-department relocation, etc. This unit provides primary support for special events inclusive of setup and takedown. The team is responsible for delivery and set up of chairs, tables, stage, dancefloor, etc. as requested by customer. This position is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of staff assignments with customer requests to ensure move of equipment or special events support is followed through on and completed with success.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Experience managing and leading staff, including assigning work/jobs and annual evaluations.
  • Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within the organization to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, provide clear technical direction, write reports and instructions, and to foster and promote the goals of the organization.
  • Skills to operate various combinations of vehicles including a 24' Bobtail Truck, Stake Bed and Flat Bed, 5 speed, two axle, 4 speed two axle.
  • Skills to operate power material handling equipment.
  • Skills to move furniture & equipment in a manner to avoid damage or injury.
  • Skills to use small hand tools for assembly & disassembly of furniture or equipment.
  • Skills to operate forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, and pulleys.
  • Skills to operate truck safely with all Federal, State, County & City regulations and laws.
  • Organizational skills to organize materials and perform various tasks.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and programs related to work order management and other programs used to generate reports, spreadsheets, create evaluations, etc.
  • Knowledge and skills with administrative ability to keep accurate records, knowledge and skills within a supervisory position, and ability to lead and oversee employees in the department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of UCDH "Preparing for Supervision Certification Program" series within 18 months of employment
  • Work accurately and quickly under pressure of deadlines.
  • Project management skills to manage work assignments; plan, track, manage projects and schedules.
  • Arithmetic skill required for job planning and estimating.
  • Team building skills.
  • Customer service skills, which include ability to follow-through on customer request to resolve problems, answer questions.
  • Knowledge of University Policies and Procedures applicable to vehicle operation.
  • Conducts self in a professional, courteous manner, representing the department in a positive way.

Department Overview

The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health System that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health System is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.
