Compensation: $74,198 - $75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
Position Summary
The Director of Student Housing at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) provides leadership and operational oversight for on-campus student housing which includes a 240-bed complex on North Campus and a 360-bed complex on South Campus. Drawing on business administration expertise, principles of student success and learning, and cross-departmental collaboration, the Director champions student satisfaction, promotes student development, and upholds the health and safety of our on-campus residents.

RFUMS, a national leader in interprofessional medical and healthcare education, is a graduate-level health sciences university located on an 85-acre campus in North Chicago, Illinois, about 40 miles north of Chicago. The university comprises six schools: the Chicago Medical School, the College of Health Professions, Dr. William M. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Occupancy Management and Finances
- Oversee housing occupancy management and database systems, including (1) marketing, (2) occupant recruitment, (3) housing applications, and (4) contract and assignment administration.
- Partner with the University's Office of Student Financial Services to coordinate Student Housing's billing, refund, and account reconciliation processes.
- Lead move-in, move-out, contracting, and room transfer operations.
- Manage the annual housing budgets including expenditure oversight, financial reporting, capital improvement planning, and revenue forecasting.
Housing and Community Operations
- Serve as the Student Housing's primary liaison to the University's Facilities, Campus Safety, Student Financial Services, Information Technology, and Admissions offices to support effective housing operations and student support initiatives.
- Recruit, select, train, and supervise the full-time Coordinator for Student Housing and three student Community Managers.
- Monitor Student Housing facilities and furnishings, and address building and maintenance concerns promptly to keep residences safe, clean, and welcoming.
- Develop a residential curriculum designed for graduate students that centers community-building, holistic wellness, and belonging.
- Track and assess residential student satisfaction, community needs, occupancy trends, and program effectiveness to continuously improve of Student Housing services and operations.
Housing Policies and Community Standards
- Serve as the primary administrator for residential conduct issues and concerns, including conflict mediation, behavioral intervention, policy enforcement, and follow-up.
- Support the University's Student Conduct policies and procedures, and oversee all Student Housing policies, procedures, and contracts.
Emergency Response
- Lead and maintain Student Housing's emergency preparedness and response protocols, including resident communication, housing continuity procedures, and emergency and crisis management. This includes participating in an after-hours, on-call rotation with other Campus Life leaders.
- Assist with responding to and following up on critical incidents involving residents, including, but not limited to, emergencies and crises, in partnership with campus and external partners and resources.
Leadership, Collaboration, and Strategic Planning
- Represent Student Housing on University committees, task forces, and working groups as assigned.
- Serve on the Division of Student Success and Wellness leadership team and contribute to divisional planning, assessment, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist with planning and implementing major institutional events, including, but not limited to, orientation, student recognition programs, awards ceremonies, and commencement.
- Support the Student Life staff with student engagement initiatives by assisting with programs and events as assigned.
- Collaborate with and across divisions and offices to provide exceptional student support.
- Remain current on best practices, trends, and legal issues related to residential life and housing, student affairs, risk management, compliance, and graduate student learning and development.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the Division of Success and Wellness and the University.
Conditions of Employment

Required Education
- Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or a related field.
Required Experience
- Experience in residential life or housing, including general knowledge of housing administration, student development, higher education law and compliance, and business concepts.
- Experience supervising full-time or part-time staff.
