The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Central Services Branch Manager (Park Management Specialist I) to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine Rec Centers, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.

The Park Authority is seeking an experienced, innovative, and collaborative manager to oversee several high-profile business operations across Fairfax County's parks. This role plays a critical part in delivering exceptional customer service while managing key revenue-generating programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads and oversees a centrally managed call center, member account services, registration and data management
  • Leads and oversees a centrally managed reservation departments, permitting, contracted events, and facility rentals (including tennis courts and athletic fields)
  • Supervises the sports tourism department responsible for hosting national level events
  • Collaborates closely with field staff, leadership, and external partners to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Serves as a liaison with the financial management team, particularly regarding point-of-sale and member account systems
  • Responds to customer feedback and implement process improvements to enhance service quality
  • Develops strategic goals and business plans aligned with operational areas, leadership &, management
  • Supervises, trains, and supports high-performing staff across multiple service areas
  • Ensures consistent, high-quality customer experiences across all programs and services

Illustrative Duties

  • Develops long-range goals and strategic plans;
  • Prepares annual operating objectives and monitors progress toward these objectives;
  • Serves as a member of the division management team and interdivisional teams;
  • Reviews program budget expenditures and budget requests;
  • Prepares and submits a consolidated budget to the appropriate approving authority;
  • Develops management indicators for budget development and evaluation of organizational performance to goals;
  • Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures and implements or recommends changes;
  • Ensures that all data necessary for the functioning and management of the organization is stored and retrievable;
  • Supervises, evaluates and counsels subordinate personnel and provides for training and career development;
  • Evaluates suggestions for new programs and improvements to existing programs;
  • Prepares periodic reports concerning organizational activities and accomplishments.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in recreation and park management or other pertinent related field; Plus, four years of experience in work related to parks or recreation, including responsible administrative/managerial experience, preferably in the applicable functional area.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's License (Required)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate brings strong experience in financial and program data management, along with the ability to think strategically and lead cross-functional operations.
  • Experience in program/registration/member data/reservation software systems.
  • Experience with service delivery (rentals, reservations, large events, etc.) for external groups and organizations.
  • This individual is highly organized, solutions-oriented, and skilled at building collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
  • They also have the ability to occasionally work evening and weekends to fulfill the needs of the job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary with walking and lifting less than five pounds. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
