Job Title: Shipping/Receiving Lead


Classification: Hourly


Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor


Department: Shipping and Receiving



Summary of Job


The Shipping/Receiving Leads are multi-functional. They have the ability to work with all functions including scheduling, production, inventory, shipping, receiving, logistics, customer service, sales, operations and purchasing in coordinating all aspects of the product throughout its lifecycle. This includes leading and developing process and procedures to properly manage and control inventory levels while maximizing the utilization of space and productivity. Their greatest skill is having the ability to understand the product/customer/quality and relate this to the team. Also, to understand and respect the critical role of other departments on the team.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities




  • Support, train, monitor, and evaluation team
  • Conduct a review of current utilization of space and product flow.
  • Work with team to keep products current with the floor plan.
  • Monitor material to verify proper FIFO is being practiced.
  • Accurately record, communicate and maintain assigned documentation in timely manner
  • Assure that scheduler knows what material is needed for shipment. Communicating any discrepancies.
  • Assist other departments/shifts as instructed
  • Adheres to all health & safety policies and procedures for area
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects Demonstrated ability to work in a professional, multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural environment
  • Take the lead on preparing processes and procedures to properly manage and control inventory levels within 120 days, coordinating with inventory and production teams. This needs to consist of analysis, assessment of technology, and historical product sales research. Include current floor organization and process in research to identify weaknesses and areas needing improvement.
  • Work with customer service and scheduling to understand current stocking programs and develop a system to help manage current inventory levels, ways to communicate any deviations and alerts for slow moving material.
  • Indirectly oversee the shipping and receiving team as the main point of contact for all incoming and outgoing material.
  • Provide directions to all shipping and receiving material handlers on a daily basis.
  • Provide problem solving and resolution skills for departmental issues
  • Continuous improvement relative to safety, quality, and productivity
  • Ability to work overtime as needed and different shifts to observe and support the team as needed
  • Research material flow and storage to implement best practices and maximize product flow to increase productivity and utilization of available warehouse space. Work with main facility to lead inventory transfer process to ensure accuracy.


  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks, communicating with carriers and logistics.
  • Completing all purchasing duties assigned for warehouse and main facility in collaboration with inventory and operations.
  • Investigate CCIs and determine if any process improvements need to be made.
  • Provide training and development to all shipping and receiving team members, controlling the processes used and determining best practices
  • Collaborate with customer service team to ensure quality and satisfaction of customer.
  • Adheres to the highest standards of company safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations including all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Type



  • Full time
  • 40 hours per week, (M-F, 8 hours per day) Weekend availability required based on business demand.
  • Available upon business demand



Education and Experience



  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook is required, with some knowledge of Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Access.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating a Forklift.


  • Minimum 5 years in shipping and receiving role, manufacturing preferred.
