Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, highly self-motivated and adaptable to learning and understanding new technologies, able to work both independently and on a team, and have the ability to organize and present information in a clear, concise manner.
- Keep current with Federal, State, and other accessibility requirements and keep existing internal accessibility information, including checklists, up to date.
- Develop 508-compliant HTML and multimedia products.
- Analyze and solve complex accessibility problems.
- Test products as requested using the Trusted Tester methodology and work directly with designers and developers to resolve issues.
- Interact with multiple functional roles, or client stakeholders, on accessibility testing results and remediation possibilities; provide remediation recommendations.
- Identify accessibility testing requirements and estimate level of effort.
- Identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and hyperlinks.
- Stay current on Section 508 policy, accessibility checklists, and additional federal accessibility guidelines.
- Evaluate accessibility testing tools, or new accessibility testing software, for use in meeting federal accessibility guidelines.
- Manage tasks, and meet deadlines, in multiple projects, in series or parallel.
- Identify areas of non-compliance in custom documents, web applications, and COTS products and suggest solutions to achieve compliance.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years experience implementing Section 508 Standards and related accessibility laws, regulations, as applicable to ICT.
- DHS Trusted Tester Certification required.
- Understand and able to validate 508 compliance using government accessibility standards, (WCAG 2.0 and 2.1) for web or file-based content, including but not limited to, user manuals, frequently asked questions, knowledge-based articles, user guides, job aids, training videos, activity guides and sheets, and micro-learning videos.
- Excellent technical writing and editing skills to include spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Proficiency with Adobe products (Acrobat, Captivate 8 or later); Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); and developing interactive PDFs (JavaScript programming a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with others.
- Medium to Expert knowledge of JAWS; NVDA; Narrator screen readers; ANDI; Dragon.
- Familiarity with alt text, tagging, color contrast, and the requirements of compliance and how to meet them.
- Knowledge in testing mobile application, testing software applications, and reviewing/correcting documents to ensure accessibility compliance.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Section 508 and accessibility-related user interface (UI) best practices for web sites.
Education:
- Master's Degree is required.
Clearance:
- The ability to pass a Tier 2/Modest Background Investigation.
Location
Pay Range:
- The pay for this position ranges from $55,730 to $73,500.
- The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
