The department believes the study and teaching of literature and language to be an important means of preserving and vitalizing our humanistic tradition.

Job Description

The Office Support Assistant IV provides general administrative and office support in the Department of English in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and has a variety of responsibilities such as assisting the Department Chair(s), student support, faculty support, and assisting with HR/financial matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Office Management: answer questions via phone, email and in-person; manage the copy machine and department printers; order supplies; coordinate events; serve as building liaison; prepare and distribute department promotional materials.
  • Assist the Department Chair with day-to-day activities; help prepare reports requested by the Dean's office and other administrative offices.
  • Support the department with course scheduling, website maintenance, catalog maintenance, appointments, and department communications.
  • Support students by answering questions, assisting with department and university processes, and connecting students to campus resources, etc.
  • Support faculty by ordering teaching and research supplies, processing reimbursements, etc.
  • Support graduate program directors and Composition Director with new student admissions, administration, student needs, annual training, communications, and management of student files and progress records.
  • Support student organizations and publications with their administrative needs, including event setup, financial processes, print material distribution, and archive management.
  • Assist with Human Resources (HR) activities such as part-time hiring paperwork and coordination; supervise work study students; work with Human Resources Business Partner.
  • Financial activities such as assist department chair with budget management; purchasing; onecard(s), eProcurement, and work with the Accounts Payable Shared (APS) Services Center and Fiscal Officer.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to coordinate and maintain progress of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, capable of working independently and proactively. Adaptable and willing to take on varied tasks.
  • Clear written and verbal communicator, able to adjust tone and detail for different audiences, and maintain confidentiality when necessary.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, with ability to learn new software/technology as needed.
  • Collaborative and supportive of faculty and chair's tasks.
  • Welcoming and invested in the needs of students and community members.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15.00 - $19.00 per hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
