Summary

The Port Engineer position supervises the maintenance and repair of company tugs, barges, dredges, derricks and construction equipment in the region. This position requires frequent and regular travel. Essential work activities include planning, implementing, coordinating, directing, reviewing, evaluating, appraising, monitoring and scheduling. Requires demonstrated leadership skills and regulatory knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Coordinates and directs the planning, construction, maintenance and alteration of equipment and machinery
  • Oversees and directs maintenance personnel and vendors engaged in equipment installation and preventive maintenance
  • Reviews repair requests and compares requests with previous work accomplished on other vessels, determining that expenditures are economically sound
  • Prepares recommendations for work and initiates procurement of materials
  • Inspects machinery, equipment or spaces outlined in work requests, draws up specifications and obtains bids from contractors or shipyards to perform repairs
  • Oversees vendor relationships and handles issues regarding quality of deliverables
  • Maintains contact with contractors to ensure completion of work at agreed to pricing
  • Investigates equipment casualties to determine cause and report's findings to equipment manager
  • Maintains maintenance and cost records for equipment under charge and submits recommendations for procurement of new equipment
  • Cooperates with regulatory bodies to ensure that repair or modifications are consistent with safety regulations
  • Monitor & maintain relevant stock inventory levels of stores
  • Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts
  • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment
  • Additional duties may be assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Supervises other personnel on designated job sites/projects in the maintenance and repair of equipment projects.
  • Responsible for assuring the skill sets of personnel under their direction align to the tasks at hand.
  • Responsible for writing and participating in work plans and JSA's for the safe execution of all work projects.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of four years of work experience as Equipment Superintendent/ Port Engineer or as General Equipment Foreman required, including experience to include heavy equipment repair and maintenance, and basic electrical knowledge.
  • Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's in Marine Engineering
  • Familiarity with ISM SMS safety system
  • Current US Coast Guard license as Designated Duty Engineer or higher grade
  • Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Intermediate to advance skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Employee is required to travel within the region regularly (50% of the time). This work often requires non-regular workdays and shifts.

Physical Demands
Position is primarily a field position, and will require travel, including visits and monitoring of construction job sites. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc). The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or up to 50 pounds. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures, and be able to transfer from one vessel to another while at sea.
