Summary:

The Director of Philanthropy - Barbara Bush Children's, will be primarily responsible for the development and implementation of strategic giving programs and events for MaineHealth Maine Medical Center, with a focus on, Barbara Bush Children's. In collaboration with the Director of Leadership Gifts, the Director of Philanthropy for Barbara Bush Children's is responsible for cultivating and soliciting leadership and principal gifts, developing service line partnerships and major donor strategies, and driving performance toward annual fundraising goals and system-wide priorities. Responsible for philanthropic liaison support to BBC committees, including Children's Miracle Network (CMN) and the Maine Children's Cancer Program Fund (MCCPF) Board of Advisors. Oversees a team responsible for securing $3 to $5 million dollars annually.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree and continuous professional development in philanthropy and related fields.
  2. License/Certifications: CFRE certification preferred.
  3. Proven record creating fundraising programs with defined goals that drive results.
  4. Excellent management, communication, writing, research, public speaking and customer service skills required.
  5. Ability to set priorities, including participation goals, meeting deadlines and working with multiple constituencies, including senior leaders within the organization and the funding community.
  6. Ability to assess donor capacity and intent and strategize donor stewardship and cultivation activities that lead to donations and sponsorships.
  7. Previous philanthropy experience in a non-profit environment at a level normally acquired with three to five years' experience or experience in a closely related field, including active donor and volunteer relations, signature event management and knowledge of effective social media use.
  8. Advanced interpersonal skills required to negotiate and work effectively with a variety of potential donors on complex and sensitive issues.
  9. Candidate must be highly motivated, analytical and resourceful.
  10. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required for donor and volunteer visits and meetings and special events.
