What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Design Manager to join our Infrastructure Development team, focusing on remodels,expansions, and program work for Sales, Service, Delivery, and Collision facilities across North America. This role owns design through construction support, coordinating with internal stakeholders, contractors, and external consultants to retrofit and standardize facilities to Tesla brand and operational standards. Remote/regionally basedwithfrequent site visits as needed.
What You'll Do
- Lead design development for remodels, expansions, and program rollouts, including test fits, concept design, and delivery of IFB/IFC packages with consultants
- Manage site survey and due diligence (utilities, structural assessments, vehicle access, property condition) to inform scope and budgets
- Conduct stakeholder site walks to define scope,identifycost drivers, and develop brand- and code-compliant retrofit/expansion solutions
- Produce design concept documents, presentation drawings, construction details, and design intent packages for program implementation
- Maintain project schedules (surveys, drawings, permitting) and coordinate with internal teams and external partners to meet milestones
- Lead permitting and entitlement efforts (AHJ coordination, site plan approvals, conditional use permits) and perform zoning/code checks
- Support construction phase: review CD/shop drawings, respond to RFIs, perform regular site visits, and ensure execution of design intent
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or equivalent experience
- 3-7 years' experience in remodels, expansions, program rollouts, or commercial/industrial/retail architecture; firm or in-house experience preferred
- Proven ability to evaluate andleverageas-built conditions for cost-effective, brand-compliant solutions
- Proficiencyin Revit and AutoCAD; familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or SketchUp is a plus
- Working knowledge of MEP coordination and ability to communicate technical requirements to consultants
- Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills, with excellent time management and attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to travelfrequentlyfor site visits
