Description
Summary: The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for the daily operations of the Associate Health services and initiatives for the organization. Assists the Human Resources department with prescreening applicants and coordinates with CHRISTUS Health Texas Occupational Injury Assistance Program (TOIAP) to promote and ensure organizational safety and a healthy workforce. In addition, assures that the facility is in compliance with the regulatory agencies, including the State of Texas, Health and Human Services (HHS), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and The Joint Commission (TJC) as it relates to Associate Health issues. Responsibilities:
- Administration of pre-placement assessments and screening tests, including medical history, drug screening, tuberculosis screening, required vaccinations, and other appropriate laboratory testing, ensuring that all Associates meet the requirements of the initial health assessment.
- Ensure all Associates meet pre-placement requirements for employment.
- Administers annual tuberculosis testing and N95 fit testing in accordance with OSHA requirements.
- Performs Quanteferon testing for Associates with uninterpretable skin test readings and works with the Department of Health with positive results.
- Provides post-exposure surveillance for Associates exposed to undiagnosed tuberculosis, needle sticks, and other exposures to infectious disease. Provides follow-up care in accordance with established protocol and adheres to established policies and federal laws.
- Provides accurate documentation and maintains Associate Health files while protecting the confidentiality of Associates and candidates.
- Responsible for ensuring the facility is in compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services, Joint Commission, and ADA standards as it pertains to Employee Health Services.
- Serves as the liaison for Security and Outpatient Lab in performing random drug screens required by the State of Texas Security Officers.
- Assists the Infection Control department as needed.
- Provides all Associate vaccinations (i.e., MMR, Hepatitis B, and influenza) as required by policy. Provides proper follow-up with Associates to ensure compliance. Record all vaccination information in accordance with policy and state and federal laws.
- Review and follow-up on variance reports involving all Associates. Review and submit necessary paperwork to Risk Management. Assessment of the appropriateness of care and coordination of actions with the Occupational Health representative and Occupational Health physician.
- Serves as an active member on the Environment of Care (EOC) committee.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Education/Skills
- Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN or RN program
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong analytical skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge and understanding of the laws and regulations (State of Texas, Department of Health, ADA, and The Joint Commission) that involve Employee Health
Experience
- Two (2) to Five (5) years in an acute patient care environment or Employee Health
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid State LPN/LVN or RN license
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) desired
