Job Title: Academic Human Resources Analyst 3

Location(s): San Francisco, CA
(Remote: 95% remote; occasional onsite presence required a few times per year)

Job Summary:
This role is responsible for supporting and administering a broad range of academic human resources functions. The position involves recommending, developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, programs, and procedures related to academic personnel. Areas of responsibility may include recruitment, appointment and advancement, compensation and salary administration, benefits, payroll, visa processing, training and development, employee relations, and academic personnel conduct and equity matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide end-to-end HR generalist support across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, payroll coordination, employee relations, and offboarding.
  • Interpret and apply academic personnel policies, labor agreements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage academic recruitment, appointments, and advancement processes.
  • Support compensation planning, salary administration, and benefits-related activities.
  • Advise on employee relations issues, including performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and labor contracts.
  • Serve as the primary HR contact for assigned academic departments, delivering consultative support.
  • Coordinate visa-related processes and documentation where applicable.
  • Contribute to training and development initiatives for academic personnel.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated HR generalist experience supporting the full employee lifecycle.
  • Prior experience in an academic, university, or complex institutional HR environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve moderately complex to complex HR and academic personnel issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Scope and Level:

  • Functions as an experienced professional with a strong understanding of academic HR practices and policies.
  • Applies theoretical knowledge to practical situations with minimal supervision.
  • Handles a full range of responsibilities independently.
  • Analyzes diverse issues and develops effective, practical solutions.

Additional Details:

  • Acts as a key liaison for assigned departments, providing strategic and operational HR guidance.
  • Works with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Supports a wide range of academic titles and personnel matters with a focus on compliance and service excellence.
Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday, 0800-1700 PST.
Remote Eligibility:
  • Open to non-local candidates within California.
