Description

As our Operation Planning Engineer Co-op, you'll analyze future operating conditions on the Bulk Electric System and help determine safe and reliable paths for maintenance and new construction. Your work ensures MISO can prepare for the grid of tomorrow.

You'll gain hands-on experience with:



  • Power system analysis tools and grid modeling software
  • Real-world contingency analysis and system studies
  • Model validation and operational project support



A Great Day in This Role Means:

You'll spend time running power flow studies and reviewing system models to evaluate how the grid will perform under future conditions. You'll work with engineers to analyze contingencies, identify potential reliability concerns, and support planning decisions that keep the grid safe and stable.

You'll see your work make an impact when your analysis helps teams plan maintenance, support new infrastructure projects, and ensure the grid operates reliably for millions of people.

This is a unique opportunity because:
You'll collaborate across teams such as Real-Time Operations, Day Ahead Market Operations, and Transmission Planning. This cross-functional exposure allows you to see how planning decisions connect to real-time grid operations and long-term reliability strategy.

Location: Carmel, IN | Housing available for qualified students
Academic Level: Undergraduate (Juniors or Seniors)
Degree: Electrical Engineering

Required Technical Skills:



  • Completion of core Electrical Engineering coursework


Preferred Skills:



  • Coursework in Power Systems Analysis
  • Programming experience such as Python, MATLAB, or C++
  • Hands-on projects or internships related to grid modeling or system studies
