WSSU) is seeking a Security Operations Specialist to support the Department of Police & Public Safety. The Security Operations Specialist reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Administration. The Security Operations Specialist manages and supports the department's safety and security technologies, including surveillance systems, access control, patrol car equipment, body cameras, blue light emergency phones, and Computer Aided Dispatch (
CAD). This role provides technical support, system administration, staff training, and serves as the primary liaison with
OIT to ensure operational readiness, emergency response, and campus safety.
Responsibilities of the Security Operations Specialist:
- Provide technical support for public safety applications, including CAD and communication platforms.
- Coordinate with OIT on troubleshooting, software installations, hardware setup, and functionality testing.
- Conduct onboarding and refresher training for departmental staff on all supported systems.
- Develop and maintain user documentation, training guides, and reference materials.
- Promote compliance with IT security protocols and ensure adherence to data confidentiality standards.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and support their adoption within the department.
- Manage, monitor, and maintain safety and security technologies, including surveillance systems, access control, patrol car equipment, body cameras, and blue light emergency phones.
- Real-time monitoring of systems and supporting operational readiness/emergency response.
- Monitor system performance, conduct routine checks, identify outages, and coordinate repairs with OIT and vendors.
- Apply vendor-recommended firmware updates, security patches, and system enhancements.
- Support the integration and adoption of new technologies within the department.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Housing and Residence Life to assess residence hall safety needs and support the development, implementation, and evaluation of data-informed safety strategies.
- Leverage crime trends, operational data, and security technologies to enhance situational awareness and improve incident response within residential communities.
- Participate in cross-departmental planning efforts to strengthen campus safety initiatives.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret crime, incident, and security-related data to identify trends, patterns, and emerging risks.
- Build, maintain, and manage crime trend, intelligence, and analytical databases.
- Utilize crime mapping, data visualization, and analytical software to produce timelines, flowcharts, and link analyses in support of investigations and intelligence efforts.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to inform operational improvements and preventive safety measures.

- Vendor certifications (e.g., Milestone, Microsoft, CompTIA); experience with CAD systems, mobile safety tools (body cams, tablets), and inventory tracking.
- Proficiency in surveillance and security platforms such as Milestone, Southern Software, Flock, and BriefCam.
- Strong understanding of CCTV, LPRs, emergency lockdown systems, and integrated access control technologies.
- Familiarity with IT systems: servers, operating systems (e.g., Windows), networking, and storage-area networking.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, manage digital evidence, and follow security protocols.
- Strong situational awareness and the ability to provide real-time support during emergencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience training users and creating technical documentation.
- Availability for on-call emergencies and commitment to maintaining operational readiness.
