| Job Description |
The Financial Aid Specialist II provides financial aid counseling to students and parents; process and award financial aid applications; develop, manage, award and assess the Department of Education Programs; reconcile annual and meet all compliance requirements. This is accomplished by keeping abreast of laws and regulations; attending trainings which could include credentialing by recognized professional associations; conducting meetings and workshops; reviewing and determining aid eligibility; collaborating with other departments and affinity organizations; implementing program updates; providing education and training to staff and students; and updating coworkers on policies and procedures.
This is an exempt, professional staff position reporting to the Director for Financial Aid. This position also directly supervisors 3 staff members.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

- Minimum of four years of Financial Aid work experience
- Minimum of one year of leadership experience (leading taskforces, committees, projects, etc)

| Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Knowledge of Federal Verification and FSA Systems
- Knowledge of Common Origination and Disbursement (COD)
- National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) experience
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply applicable policies, procedures, and/or practices
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Skill in utilizing sound judgement to make effective decisions
- Skill in organizing, evaluating, and analyzing complex information
- Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
- Skill in using mathematics to solve problems
- Ability to accurately prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
