Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Machinist 5 to support precision instrument research, development, and manufacturing. This role requires deep expertise in both manual and CNC machining, with a strong emphasis on prototype development as well as batch manufacturing. The Machinist V will be a key technical contributor and trusted partner to engineering, scientific, and manufacturing teams, playing a critical role in the company's continued growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC milling machines and lathes (machining centers); familiarity with HAAS controls strongly preferred.

  • Perform precision machining using manual lathes and mills.

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs using CAM software; familiarity with GibbsCAM preferred.

  • Manufacture high-precision prototype components and support transition to low- and mid-volume batch production.

  • Interpret and work from complex engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Apply GD&T per ANSI/ASME Y14.5-1994 standards.

  • Perform part inspection using manual inspection tools and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).

  • Apply strong understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling, and material properties to optimize quality and efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, scientific, assembly, and manufacturing teams to resolve design-for-manufacturability issues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and records using standard computer tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel).

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machining processes, quality, and throughput.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support additional tasks and responsibilities as business needs evolve.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of CNC and manual machining practices.

  • Strong foundation in applied mathematics relevant to machining and inspection.

  • Proven ability to independently plan and execute complex machining jobs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, customers, and administrative staff.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and detail-oriented.

  • Demonstrated ability to roll up sleeves and work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Comfortable working in a growing, dynamic, and technically challenging environment.

Pay Range:

Pay Range Explained:

This role in Boulder, Colorado pays between $31.55 and $41.42 per hour, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off. You'll also be eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and flexible spending or savings accounts.
