A Brief Overview

This Paramedic role is based in the Transfer Center at our Management Service Center location in Shaker Heights. Responsible for performing all aspects of the dispatching process ensuring that all requests for service and related activities occur in a timely, safe and accurate fashion.

Position Summary/Essential Duties:

  • Dispatch of UH air and ground ambulances, support assets, and providing incident support
  • Executes expedient and accurate information exchange, Demonstrating clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations
  • Ability to rapidly develop logical action plans based on information from multiple sources, and the ability to reassess and redeploy the plan when other variables arise
  • Coordination of patient transfer and response requests with field crews, facilities, physicians, other agencies, and hospital patient flow management staff
  • Assures mode of transport selected provides effectiveness and timeliness to optimally meet the patient medical need
  • Manage multiple communication devices such as radios, telephony, email, SMS, and computer chat software, often simultaneously, to communicate with multiple agencies utilizing proper etiquette
  • Possess and obtain working knowledge of external and inter-facility protocols and standards of practice
  • Demonstrates calm and concise decision making skills in managing and activating transport requests
  • Delivering exceptional customer service while facilitating communication across multiple disciplines

Knowledge/Experience - Assist patients and health care needs as directed by clinician during Emergency Department visit including performing 12 lead EKGs, blood draws, initiate Hep-locks, bedside point of care testing, aerosol treatments. Ensures the daily completion of point of care testing quality controls, defibrillator checks, refrigerator checks, transports. Performs ABGs and gain IV access as directed by order. Prepares patients and care environment for exam, specimen collection and anticipates needs of patients and providers proactively. Performs delegated basic procedures as described by their annual competency-based tool and orientation program.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
