The Opportunity

DAT Freight & Analytics is looking for a Principal UX Designer to lead the end-to-end user experience for our Trust & Safety and Carrier Management System (CMS) surfaces across DAT products and capabilities.

This is a principal-level individual contributor role with shared cultural leadership responsibilities alongside the leader of UX/Product Design. You'll set a high bar for user experience craft, systems thinking, and cross-functional collaboration-while remaining deeply hands-on with design, research, and storytelling.

You'll focus on:

  • Trust & Safety experiences that help customers feel confident using DAT-such as carrier vetting and monitoring, fraud prevention, verification and onboarding, compliance flows, reporting, and abuse prevention.
  • Carrier Management experiences that give brokers and shippers a faster, more trusted way to source, qualify, manage, and book capacity-including qualification settings, Smart Posting, carrier networks/tags, carrier health, and path-to-heal workflows embedded directly in DAT One.

In this role, you'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Trust & Safety, Risk, Legal, Operations, Customer Support, and Platform teams to design experiences that protect our marketplace, reinforce customer trust, and make carrier management efficient and transparent.

What You'll Do (Day-to-Day Responsibilities)
Own End-to-End Product Experiences

  • Lead UX strategy and execution across major product areas from discovery through delivery
  • Define experience vision, user journeys, interaction models, and design frameworks
  • Translate complex freight workflows into intuitive, scalable user experiences
  • Ensure quality, usability, accessibility, and consistency across surfaces
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure quality implementation, clarify edge cases, and refine experiences during build.
  • Partner with data and research to instrument, test, and iterate on experiences based on both qualitative and quantitative signals.

Drive Product & Business Impact

  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Research to shape roadmaps and outcomes
  • Use customer insights, analytics, and experimentation to inform decisions
  • Balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints to drive measurable results
  • Influence prioritization and advocate for high-impact UX investments

Lead Craft, Systems & Standards

  • Set a high bar for interaction design, visual quality, content clarity, and usability
  • Contribute to and evolve the design system and shared UX patterns
  • Review work across teams to maintain quality, coherence, and scalability
  • Establish best practices for AI-assisted design and rapid prototyping

Culture, Mentorship, and Craft

  • Mentor designers and raise the overall quality and impact of the design team
  • Act as a thought partner to senior product and engineering leaders
  • Influence design culture, process, and organizational maturity
  • Contribute to and facilitate team rituals (design crits, discovery readouts, design reviews) that improve the quality and impact of our work.
  • Champion inclusive design, accessibility, and ethical decision-making, especially in high-sensitivity areas like safety, risk, and enforcement.

Strategy, Planning, and Measurement

  • Collaborate with Product and cross-functional leaders to define multi-quarter UX strategies and roadmaps for Trust & Safety and CMS domains.
  • Translate business goals into prioritized UX work, balancing foundational investments (e.g., systems, carrier data, qualification patterns) with near-term improvements.
  • Define and track experience and business metrics that demonstrate impact (safety outcomes, operational efficiency, carrier and broker satisfaction, trust and network health).
  • Communicate progress and trade-offs clearly to executives and partners through concise storytelling, artifacts, and readouts.

Candidate Profile

You're a seasoned principal-level UX or product designer who thrives on leading high-impact, end-to-end user experiences design across enterprise level platforms. This role is for a strategic, hands-on design leader who thrives in complex problem spaces, takes ownership from concept through execution, and elevates product outcomes through deep customer understanding and empathy, strong craft, systems thinking, and cross-functional partnership.

You are energized by:

  • Owning large, ambiguous problem spaces and bringing clarity to them.
  • Designing end-to-end experiences that cut across multiple teams, surfaces, and systems and deliver meaningful business impact.

  • Have designed tools for partner management-including vetting, network curation, qualification rules, or monitoring.
  • Are comfortable engaging with data, risk models, policy constraints, and operational processes, and turning them into clear UX strategies and designs.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences and are adept at telling the story of problems, trade-offs, and impact.
  • Familiarity with modern product operating models-including empowered product teams, outcome-focused roadmaps, and discovery-led ways of working-is a strong plus.
