Overview

Join a growing, fast-paced, and high-performance marketing team at AMERICAN SYSTEMS. You will support real campaigns that serve our federal and technology customers and gain hands-on, project-based experience you can directly showcase on your resume and portfolio.

As a Marketing Intern, you will rotate across key areas of B2B and digital marketing-content, campaigns, and analytics-while learning how marketing supports long-cycle, account-based federal and technology business development.

About AMERICAN SYSTEMS:

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is a mission-focused government contractor providing engineering, IT, and mission support services to federal defense, intelligence, and civilian customers. Our marketing team positions these capabilities to decision-makers through targeted content, integrated campaigns, and events that emphasize mission success and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

Campaign and content execution

Supporting the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns (email, web, social, events) focused on B2B and public-sector audiences.
  • Helping create and repurpose content (social posts, blogs, one-pagers, basic case study drafts) that clearly explain our services for non-technical buyers.
  • Assisting with management and updates to our website and social channels (especially LinkedIn), applying basic SEO and engagement best practices.

Market research and analytics

  • Conducting market and competitor research on trends in federal IT, cybersecurity, and digital modernization and summarizing insights for marketing and business development stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining marketing lists, CRM records, and campaign reports to support lead generation and account-based outreach.
  • Analyzing performance data (open rates, click-throughs, web traffic, social engagement) and recommending straightforward optimizations.

Event and stakeholder support

  • Helping coordinate logistics, promotion, and follow-up for webinars, industry conferences, and customer events.
  • Supporting preparation for internal and external briefings, including pulling basic data, updating slides, or drafting simple talk tracks or summaries.
  • Participating in weekly team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and intern learning check-ins focused on core marketing skills and career development.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the internship, you will be able to:

  • Explain the B2B marketing funnel and how content, campaigns, and events support each stage in a government/enterprise context.
  • Build a small portfolio that may include: a blog or LinkedIn post, a campaign brief, a simple dashboard/report, and an event promotion plan.
  • Use industry tools such as a CRM/marketing automation platform (e.g., Salesforce or HubSpot), basic analytics (Google Analytics or similar), and content planning templates.
  • Translate technical inputs from subject matter experts into clear, audience-focused messaging.

Qualifications

  • Current junior or senior pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field, or recent graduate in a similar program.
  • Strong writing skills and interest in content creation, with the ability to adapt tone for LinkedIn, web, and email.
  • Curiosity about B2B, technology, or government contracting and how marketing supports long sales cycles and account-based strategies.
  • Comfortable working with data in spreadsheets (Excel/Sheets) and learning new tools (CRM, email, or analytics platforms).
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple small projects with guidance and feedback.

Preferred skills:

  • Familiarity with LinkedIn, Canva/Adobe Express, or basic video editing for short-form content.
  • Experience with student clubs, campus organizations, or part-time roles where you have promoted events, managed social media, or created simple marketing materials.
