PRIMARY PURPOSE
Responsible for the day-to-day management, training, coaching, and development of assigned staff for environmental and custodial services. To provide an environment where we partner with Infection Prevention to improve customer service and patient experience at Parkland Health & Hospital Systems.
MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education
- Must have a High School diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience successfully managing employees in an environmental services department or a service-related field with high customer/client contact and customer satisfaction needs.
- A working knowledge and the ability to demonstrate a deep understanding of Federal and State environmental regulations.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
- May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

- Effective verbal and written skills; and the proven ability to read in order to receive, interpret and distribute instructions.
- Must possess basic critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to comply with established reporting requirements for tracking employee performance, completing performance evaluations, and conducting effective employee training.

- Must possess; and consistently demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

- Must be able to demonstrate fundamentally sound and industry acceptable environmental services standards and techniques, and a working knowledge and familiarity with the use of cleaning materials. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of specialized cleaning techniques and all Environmental Services cleaning equipment.
- Must possess and consistently convey an approachable style; which relates well to others; and have the ability to demonstrate acceptable behaviors and actions that are aligned with Parkland policy and procedures.
- Must complete departmental training.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a high level of cleanliness in assigned areas by effectively managing staff, and infection prevention methods.
- Accountable for the cleanliness of all assigned areas, including hospital critical care areas, patient room areas, corridors, walkways, parking areas, bed tracking, etc. to assure the optimal clean, sanitary and safe environment for all internal/external patients, visitors and/or employees of Parkland.
- Manager duties may include the assurance of infection prevention practices and to include efficient sweeping, moping, vacuuming, collection/disposal of common and medical infectious waste, cleaning, floor striping/buffing, detailing, etc.
- Participates in the recruitment, interviewing and staff selection process. Participates in the training and motivation of assigned staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers.
- Harmoniously works with all contacts inclusive of patients, visitors, hospital and PHHS employees and Operational Leaders, to promote optimal customer services and customer satisfaction in accordance with the missions and objectives of the Environmental Services Department, the hospital and PHHS.
- Responsible for assigned staff members' maintenance, correct use, and care of materials, equipment and supplies, - requisitioning and replenishing supplies as needed, notifying appropriate personnel when maintenance, and/or repair is needed, and ensures the optimal usage of materials and safety for Environmental Services Department services and resources.
- Manages staff appropriately to cover all areas in relief and staff shortage situations to assure the continuance of environmental services, while providing optimal services to internal and external customers. Flexible and agile to respond to the needs of all shifts.
- Accountable for the day-to-day management of assigned employees by effectively communicating and clarifying job descriptions; outlining and documenting expectations early.
- Actively participates in the entire progressive disciplinary process up to and including the termination of employment of staff who fail to adhere to Parkland Health & Hospital System policies and/or procedures.
- Conducts the interviewing process of job candidates.
- Manages staff to adhere to the compliance program set forth by Parkland Health & Hospital System; and demonstrated by first holding yourself accountable to uphold the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
Job Accountabilities
- Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
- Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
- Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
