SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

This position is primarily responsible for sourcing new business opportunities for SouthState (primarily Loans, Deposits, Treasury Management, Interest Rate Derivatives, Retirement Services, and Private Wealth) to help propel SouthState's future growth in the Atlanta, GA market. In essence, the BDO will look for opportunities to "sell all of SouthState" throughout the local market. Once a specific opportunity is identified, the BDO will also play an important role in collaborating with other SouthState team members (RM, PM, Risk Management, TM Sales, etc.) to develop the specific terms of new business proposals, underwrite transactions, pursue credit approval, etc.

BDO's activities can support both the Middle Market and Commercial teams in Atlanta, GA.

The BDO will maintain strong internal relationships with Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, Local Market and State Leaders, Risk Management, and various product partners. Key external relationships will include Prospects and COI's in the local market; the BDO may also support existing SouthState client relationships on a case-by case basis as appropriate/practical.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Regular ongoing calling activity to "help open doors" with Hampton Roads-based companies
  • Collaborating with SSB colleagues to develop the specific terms of new business proposals, successfully underwrite transactions, and pursue internal credit approval
  • As appropriate, help mentor other less-experienced Atlanta-based SSB colleagues
  • Participate as needed in growth-oriented and educational initiatives

COMPETENCIES

  • Analyzing and interpreting financial statements, written & verbal communication in English, interpersonal relationship skills, ability to communicate effectively, professional image, work independently with minimum supervision, problem solving skills

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

  • Education: BS Degree or graduate of Banking School Operation preferred
  • Experience: 7 years' experience in high volume lending financial institution with banking background.
  • Certifications/Specific Knowledge: Overall knowledge of commercial lending as well as bank operating systems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is in a private office.

TRAVEL

Occasional travel may be required to attend internal meetings as needed.
