Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist with a strong background in manufacturing environments, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for safety leadership, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration.

Note: This is an on-site position that pays $90,000-$98,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications, plus bonus

The EHS Specialist supports the development and execution of site Environmental, Health, and Safety programs within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This position has a strong emphasis on industrial hygiene, including exposure assessments for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), potent compounds, solvents, and cleanroomrelated risks. The specialist ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA requirements, and internal corporate standards while partnering closely with Operations, Quality, and engineering teams.

Job duties:



  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and procedures aligned with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, and root cause investigations; recommend and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Oversee confined space entry, forklift operations, nonstandard work, and energy control (LOTO) procedures, ensuring compliant training, documentation, and audit programs.
  • Coordinate and deliver EHS training programs; lead safety committee activities and promote engagement through toolbox talks, campaigns, and recognition initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on environmental compliance related to air, water, and waste; support permitting processes, inspections, and sustainability efforts.
  • Maintain emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure readiness of response teams, equipment, and documentation.
  • Track leading and lagging safety indicators, analyze trends, and implement proactive measures to reduce risk and prevent injuries.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and HR to embed EHS requirements into daily activities and longterm strategic planning.
  • Lead injury prevention initiatives to support a worldclass safety culture and reduce injury frequency and severity.
  • Identify, assess, and control sitelevel hazards; support supervisors in conducting thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Analyze incident and risk trends and develop targeted training programs using appropriate media and delivery methods.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to influence EHS resource allocation, project planning, and business decisionmaking.
  • Provide input on the design of standardized EHS systems, policies, campaigns, and training to reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Build and leverage internal networks (Operations, HR, Finance, Legal, Claims, Security) and external partnerships (industry groups, safety organizations) to strengthen EHS programs and standards.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support overall EHS performance and organizational goals.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Associates degree with major course work in EHS, risk management, or a closely related field is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professionally recognized certifications in EHS is preferred:

    • ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)


  • Minimum of five (5) years of EHS experience in fastpaced manufacturing environments.
  • Proven leadership of safety committees and crossfunctional teams to strengthen engagement and accountability.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and federal, state, and local EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with LOTO, confined space entry, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis, hazard assessments, JSAs, and corrective action implementation.
  • Experienced in developing and delivering training programs, including new hire orientation and digital learning modules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Effective collaborator with crossfunctional partners, driving coordinated planning and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Able to promote a strong safety culture using data-driven, behavior-based, and research-backed methodologies.
  • Strong decision-making ability with a track record of independently resolving complex EHS challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experienced in influencing all organizational levels.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate needs across three different work shifts


Preferred qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree with major course work in EHS, risk management, or a closely related field.
  • System Administrator experience in Benchmark Gensuite with expertise in system navigation, reporting, configuration, and user support.
  • Professionally recognized certifications in EHS:

    • ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
