Responsibilities:

The HR Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for performing transactional, regulatory, and intermediatelevel employee relations duties within Human Resources. This role independently reviews, evaluates, routes, and processes a wide range of HR documentation and ensures accuracy across HRIS and related systems. The HR Specialist II serves as a subject matter expert in HR operations, providing guidance to employees, managers, directors, and external agencies while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, state/federal laws, and accreditation standards.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Conduct employee relations intakes and recommend appropriate actions consistent with Presbyterian policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements, Joint Commission standards, and other accrediting agencies.
  • Perform or support investigations, prepare reports, and retrieve necessary documentation.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate informal and formal grievance procedures and manage all CDS unemployment hearings.
  • Handle escalations from AskHR and specialized HR inquiries, referring to HR leadership when necessary.

HR Operations, Systems, & Documentation

  • Review, process, route, and follow up on HRIS actions related to extended leaves, corrective actions, terminations, severance agreements, and other employee record updates.
  • Utilize Workday and other HR information systems to process transactions, compile data, and analyze trends.
  • Conduct file audits and ensure complete and accurate documentation for payroll and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to support HR operations.

Training & Team Support

  • Deliver HR trainings as directed, including topics such as grievance processes, HR hot topics, file requirements, and license/certification verification.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for HR Specialist functions and lead specialized processes as assigned.
  • Provide backup support to other HR Specialists and assist with onboarding, mentoring, and supporting team members.

Problem Solving & Collaboration

  • Use independent judgment to evaluate issues, identify solutions, and escalate appropriately.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Employee Relations Representatives, HR Business Partners, and HR leadership as needed.
  • Travel to various PHS facilities to support assigned areas, specialty functions, and audits.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

  • At least two years of Human Resources experience in an Employee Relations Specialist, HR Generalist, or related HR role.
  • Demonstrated competencies aligned with HR Specialist II - Employee Relations.

Preferred Certifications

  • PHR certification preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Experience using Workday or a comparable HRIS.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data validation preferred).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data management.

  • Strong communication skills; able to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited guidelines.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational and timemanagement skills.
