ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking for aSenior IT Infrastructure Engineerto join our IT Operations team and take the lead in designing, implementing, and advancing core infrastructure systems to support VHB's 30+ offices across the East Coast.

This is a senior-level technical position. If you thrive on solving complex challenges, designing automated solutions, and optimizing systems for security and scalability, while working as part of a collaborative team and mentoring others, this is the role for you. We're especially interested in someone who embraces software defined concepts across networking, storage, and compute; is inspired by DevOps workflows and infrastructure-as-code; and consistently asks, "How can we automate this?"

What You'll Do

IT Projects

Lead design, scope, and execution of major IT infrastructure initiatives.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency across infrastructure and endpoint management. Champion an automation-first approach to drive consistency, repeatability, and scalability.
  • Develop strategies for hybrid cloud/on-premises environments to optimize performance and cost. Leverage software-defined technologies (e.g., SD WAN, virtualization, policy-driven controls) to improve agility and reliability.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery plans encompassing both cloud and on-premises systems. Continuously test, document, and automate recovery procedures.
  • Maintain infrastructure documentation and environment diagrams, supporting organizational change management and operating procedures.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for identity and infrastructure technologies. Provide architectural guidance that prioritizes automation, security, and observability.

Infrastructure Management

  • Manage physical and virtual servers, storage, and network components within IT-controlled facilities and datacenters. Apply software defined approaches and configuration management to standardize builds and reduce drift.
  • Partner with the cloud team to deploy, configure, and manage cloud-based services and infrastructure as needed, ensuring integration with on-premises systems. Integrate automation pipelines that span on-prem and cloud for consistent delivery.
  • Strengthen core infrastructure principles, including DRAS, storage solutions, LAN/WAN configurations, and perimeter security (firewalls). Evolve toward software defined networking and policy as code to enhance security posture and speed of change.
  • Provide architectural oversight and guidance for production VDI tools (Citrix) to ensure performance and workflow optimization.
  • Collaborate with security team to ensure systems are secure and reliable. Implement zero trust aligned controls and continuous hardening through automated policies.
  • Contribute to process improvements and help refine IT administrative workflows. Continuously assess "manual today, automated tomorrow" opportunities, participating in VHB's culture of "innovation as a daily habit."

Escalations & Support

  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
  • Provide mentoring for junior staff and guidance for escalated tickets.
  • Serve as the final escalation point for advanced infrastructure incidents. Use incident learnings to create durable automation, documentation, and preventative controls.
  • Provide timely and professional communication to VHB staff and internal teams.

Growth & Development

  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by demonstrating adaptability, leadership, and strategic thinking.
  • Exemplify VHB's culture of continuous personal and professional growth. Demonstrate technical curiosity through proofs of concept, measurable experiments, and thoughtful adoption of new capabilities. Stay current on emerging technologies and the evolution of products and services from key vendors.
  • Collaborate closely and proactively across teams. Share knowledge through clear documentation, demos and mentoring.

What We're Looking For/ Qualifications

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 8+ years of IT systems engineering experience
  • Expertise in Microsoft Windows Client, Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra and PowerShell
  • Expertise in foundational infrastructure technologies, including hypervisors, DRAS, storage solutions, LAN/WAN configurations, and perimeter security (firewalls). Working knowledge of software defined concepts (e.g., SD WAN/virtual networking, software defined storage, policy-driven controls).
  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps workflows and automation across build, configuration, and operations.
  • Expertise in zero-trust principles and their application in endpoint hardening.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) for integration purposes.
  • Proven technical curiosity and a track record of investigating, piloting, and deploying creative, robust, and innovative solutions.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills. Collaborative mindset with a history of effective cross-team partnership and mentoring.
  • Prepared to discuss prior initiatives - successes, failures, lessons learned - and how you translated them into automation and process improvements.

If you're excited by modern, software-defined infrastructure and an automation-first culture, we'd love to talk!
