Title: Genomic Epidemiologist $65000 - $80000 / Posted Thru: 2-6-2026 Funded Thru: 7/31/27 This Position Requires a Cover Letter with Application Location: Hybrid - Must work and live in the state of Michigan Purpose: The purpose of this position is to contribute to pathogen genomic epidemiology activities within the Genomics Section at the MDHHS Bureau of Laboratories. This individual will collaborate with bioinformaticians, laboratorians, and various infectious disease epidemiology programs within MDHHS to enhance utilization of pathogen genomics data within public health. Primary responsibilities include genomic data analysis, visualization, and interpretation to support genomic surveillance and outbreak/cluster investigations for pathogens of public health importance. Additionally, this individual will contribute to pathogen genomics training and workforce development activities. Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications/Requirements: Education: MS, MPH, or PhD in Epidemiology, Microbiology, or a field related to the requirements of the position. Experience: 12 months of experience within the field of infectious disease or public health. Important Skills and Characteristics:
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: This position is a hybrid position, with the in-person portion being located in an office cubicle within a laboratory setting.Physical Activities: Standing, lifting, carrying, kneeling, bending, squatting, keyboard entry- daily. Conditions/Hazards: Potential dust, odor, fumes, chemicals, biological agents, Must have ability to work at a computer and operate normal office equipment. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility. IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS:This position has a direct impact on the quality of services provided by MPHI to MDHHS.
