Position description

The Department of Neurosciences (https://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking neurologists with a focus in inpatient neurology and an interest in advancing the delivery of neurological care and consultation (neurohospitalist).

U.S. News & World Report ranks UC San Diego #21 in the nation for Neurological and Neurosurgical care, and the Department of Neurosciences consistently ranks #1 in NIH funding among neurosciences departments and in the top 5 of neurology departments. UC San Diego Health includes the Jacobs Medical Center, Hillcrest, and East Campus hospitals. Each is staffed to provide general (non-stroke) and stroke neurological care and consultation.

The current positions are for the delivery of general inpatient neurological care and consultation at the Jacobs Medical Center, as well as the intermittent staffing of a discharge clinic to assist with clinical transitions from the inpatient and emergency department settings to ambulatory care.

The selected candidates will play a key role in teaching residents and medical students within the inpatient setting and will collaborate with the Department and institution to enhance clinical quality metrics, such as emergency department consultation response times, efficient and effective use of hospital resources for neurological diagnosis and care, constructive and service-oriented neurological consultation for partner services, and skillful delivery of inpatient and transitional care for patients on the general (non-stroke) neurology service.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.
