This is an opportunity to join a collaborative HR team at a major public university and make a meaningful impact on employee experience, policy application, and organizational culture.

Here's a little about UNC Charlote and the position they are recruiting for:

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a public research university and part of the University of North Carolina System. About the Department:

The team administers employee relations programs and policies related to performance management, discipline, grievances, unemployment insurance, ADA accommodations, and the prevention of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace violence. Employee Relations also offers counseling to employees with workplace concerns and consultative support to managers on performance expectations, documentation, feedback, and disciplinary communications.

About the role:

This position serves as a key Employee Relations Consultant, managing day-to-day employee relations activities while ensuring compliance, consistency, and a supportive process. The role focuses on advising managers on performance management and disciplinary actions up to and including termination, conducting investigations and grievance processes, facilitating conflict resolution, and identifying opportunities to strengthen employee relations practices and workplace culture.

Additional responsibilities include managing cases through the Salesforce Case Management and Ticketing system, assigning and responding to cases received through Employee Relations and ADA inboxes, preparing investigation summaries and reports, responding to inquiries, performing administrative tasks, and generating reports to support team operations and data-informed decision-making.

Employee Relations Reporting:

  • Support the Employee Relations Director in preparing annual SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty employee relations reports, maintain ER case trackers and spreadsheets, and assist with recurring or ad hoc reporting as needed.

Communication, Documentation, and Policy Application

  • Listen to and assess employee relations concerns, interpret and apply relevant policies and regulations, and provide informed options for resolution. Prepare written communications related to performance and disciplinary matters, document meetings and proceedings, draft procedures and reports, and compose final disciplinary and separation letters as required.

Unemployment Administration

  • Respond to requests from the University's third-party unemployment vendor, participate in unemployment hearings as needed, advise department leaders on hearing preparation, and ensure accurate and timely submission of unemployment-related reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, psychology, organizational development, or a related field.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating, and promoting HR best practices in support of organizational goals and objectives.

  • Active listener, strong communicator, strong written skills
  • Strong excel skills, v look ups and pivot tables

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
